A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 2

This document outlines a detailed lesson plan on teaching multiplication as repeated addition to students. The lesson plan includes objectives, materials, and step-by-step procedures for the teacher-led instruction and student activities. Students will practice writing multiplication problems as repeated addition, such as 5 x 3 as 3 + 3 + 3, and solve word problems using multiplication. The lesson aims to illustrate and reinforce the relationship between multiplication and repeated addition.

A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 2

I. Objectives
A. Illustrate multiplication as repeated addition
II. Subject matter
“Multiplication as Repeated Addition”
Reference: Mathematics 2 TG pp. 151-154
Materials: Charts, Drill cards, Real objects
III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preparation
1. Motivation “Six Silly Monkey”
Before we start our lesson for today, Monkey one and monkey two
Let us sing a song entitled Monkey’s do the hula hoop
“Six Silly Monkey” Ee,Ee,Ah,Ah,Oo,Oo,Oo

Monkey three and Monkey four

Monkey’s skateboard to the
Store
Ee,Ee,Ah,Ah,Oo,Oo,Oo

Monkey five and Monkey six

Monkey’s hug a monkey friend
Ee,Ee,Ah,Ah,Oo,Oo,Oo

2. Drill (Addition)
I have here a drill card. Add the numbers
as fast as you can. 3 6 2 7
+3 +6 +2 +7
----- ----- ----- -----

4 5 8 1
+4 +5 +8 +1
----- ----- ----- -----

3. Review
Now let’s have a short review of our
past lesson.
What was our lesson yesterday? Our lesson yesterday was about
Multiplication.
What are the terms used in Multiplication? The multiplicand, multiplier and
Product.
B. Presentation
1. Lesson proper
I have here 3 groups of candies. In
Each group there are 5 candies.

How many groups of candies are there? There are 3 groups of candies.
How many candies are there in each groups? There are 5 candies in each groups.
How many candies are there in all? There are 15 candies in all
It is written in a word as “Two Groups of Five”
And in symbol as 2 x 4.

We arrive in that answer by using addition to

find the number of lollipops in each groups.
We can write it in another way such as
5 + 5 + 5 = 15

Another, I have here 2 groups of lollipops

In one group there are 4 lollipops.

How many groups do I have? There are 2 groups of lollipops.

How many lollipops are there in each groups? There are 4 lollipops in each groups.
How many lollipops are there in all? There are 8 lollipops in all.

Again, how many lollipops are there in all? There are 8 lollipops in all.
How did you arrive in that answer? We use addition
Who can show us how it was done? 4+4=8

To illustrate multiplication as repeated

addition, we add the multiplicand repeatedly
according to its multiplier to get its product.

2. Practice exercises
Answer the exercises and explain the steps 1. 4 x 3 = ____________________
you followed in finding your answers. 2. 5 x 2 = ____________________
3. 3 x 6 = ____________________
4. 6 x 4 = ____________________
5. 2 x 8 = ____________________
C. Generalization
How do we relate addition to Multiplication is a repeated addition.
multiplication?
D. Fixing of Skills
Answer the following by using
Multiplication as repeated addition.

2+2+2=6

3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12

4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 16

2+2=4

3+3+3=9
E. Application
Solve for the product and
Show the repeated addition by continuing the following patterns.
1. 5 x 4 =
4 + ______________
2. 4 x 7 =
7 + ______________
3. 4 x 9 =
9 + ______________
4. 7 x 3 =
7 + ______________
5. 2 x 9 =
9 + ______________
IV. Evaluation
Show the following repeated addition in the following.
1. 5 x 3 = ____________
2. 4 x 8 =____________
3. 7 x 4 =____________
4. 3 x 7 =____________
5. 2 x 7 = ____________
