Why “ekattorer dinguli” is important for realizing our liberation war deeply?

“Ekattorer dingui” is a hand note of Jahanara Emam. She wrote everything she saw
and happened with her in 1971 liberation war. And later her hand note was
published as a book in February 1986. This book is about the guerillas and the
situation of Bangladesh mostly Dhaka city in 1971. For understanding the situation
and reality of 71 this book is really important.

Jahanara emam discuss what happened to her during the liberation war. In 71 they
avoid to eating fish because Pakistani military and bihari’s killed innocent Bengalis
and throw them to the river and fishes eat those humans. How tough life was in 71.
Pakistani military used say in 71 that they are in support of “Islam” but they killed
Qari in Mosque when he is reading Qur’an. They raped mothers in front of their
sons in front of their family. They killed son in front of mother. How cruel they
were. They were human but acted like blood thirsty animals. That is not a
Muslim’s work. Islam does not teach us to kill innocent people or to rape someone.
Another way of killing was to take out all the blood from human’s body with help
of syringe. Because injured Pakistani military’s need blood for their treatment.

Jahanara Emam’s son Rumi is going to war tomorrow. But he did not tell the name
of with who he is going. How hard it was to handle for a mother that her son was
go to the war she do not know her son will come back or not and even she do not
know with who her son is going. This pain was intolerable. And how the young
people were in 1971 they left their family their parents for go to the liberation war
to make the country independent.

In first attempt Rumi was failed to go to the liberation war because the place they
selected to cross the border that place was surrounded by the Pakistani military, so
he had to come back home. Bur in 13 June he again ready for go to the war
tomorrow. This time Nadim is with him. Nadim’s father is a military officer he
was in war, now Nadim and Rumi is going.

In 3rd July Jahanara Emama’s Husband Sarif give her note three sentences was
written on that note “I am good. I am with Moni. Give them what they want.” We
cannot imagine the pain of that her son was in war the 1st latter came from her son
but only with three word and for a purpose. The purpose was Khaled Mosharof
(Sector commander to sector 2, Rumi was in sector 2) wanted to know about all the
bridges. In 8th July two young people came for take the information of bridge but
Jahanara Emam had to stay in gate for make sure nobody should come in the house
and her husband was giving them the information and make sure they understand
about everything. Jahanara Emam wanted to go and sit with them but she could not
she had stay in gate. And when those young peoples were going she could not ask
anything because they had hurry. How painful for a mother is this that she could
not ask anything about her son. She did not know anything about her son. How
much sacrifice was made by them in 1971. Sometimes Jahanara Emam thought
that if she had a rocket like astronauts she can fly to the training center and see her
son for once. A mother can think like that if she is in so much trouble.

In August 8 Rumi came home. After he came he has no routine about his meal or
when he went out and when he came home. And also her mother has no right to
talk about his actions. Because he cannot tell about it. Ii is hurt when a mother
knows that his son has risk of his life, but she cannot observe his action or cannot
make him safe. In August 29 some military came to Jahanar Emam’s house and
take Sarif, Rumi, Jami, Hafiz and Masum with them said, they were taking them
for a normal investigation they will come back in 30 to 45 minutes. But they did
not come. Then the other day Hafiz came and Jahanara asked him where his
everybody hafiz said he did not know. In 31 August everybody came back bit
Rumi did not come. And they told her how Pakistani military torture Bengali’s.
Can we imagine that if a mother heard that somewhere Pakistanis are torturing
Bengalis and her son is there how a mother can feel in that time; this is beyond our
imagination because we do not face this. These things happened with lot of
mothers with lot of family. This happened with Rumi, Bodi, Chullu, Ajad. Even
Ajad’s Mother said to him that tolerate Pakistani military’s torture. But do not give
information about your work to them. A mother was saying this to her son how
hard the time was in that time. In this book Jahanara Emam told about the bank
robbery, take all the medicines from hospital, Pakistani military do those things to
breakdown Bengali people. But Bengali’s did not break they stayed strong they
fought they sacrifice and then we get the independent.

By reading this book we imagine the pictures of 1971, how peoples suffered in that
time, how they sacrifice their lives their beloved one’s life. So this can motivate
our generation our people to learn from them and do something for the country.
We do not need to sacrifice our lives or our love one live for the country. We just
need to take some steps or do some work. This is why “Ekattorer Dinguli” is
important for realizing our liberation war deeply.
