What is stereotype?
Definition:
Stereotype is the ideas or generalization believes by some individual to a particular group. Or
these are the over specified ideas or characteristics held by individual to a particular or specific
group.
Explanation.
As discuss above in the definition of stereotype, that these are generalization believes held by an
individuals to a specific group. These generalization believes mostly portrayed, intentionally and
unintentionally by mass media including television, radio, newspaper and social media.
Stereotype are often consider a negative believes but it can also be positive too. For example
Woman’s are consider bad at mathematics, old ladies like knitting. Stereotype can based on
race, gender, religion and ethnicity. Here we will discuss the how Pakistani female as being
stereotype by media in advertisement.
Pakistani stereotype advertisements about females:
In Pakistani advertisement woman mostly stereotype by showing them in fairness creams ads,
preparing food for the feast, washing clothes, cleaning toilets. These advertisement give the
impression that woman are the one whose responsible for house chores. In every detergent and
soap advertisement woman are showing an expert in washing clothes and most of the famous
brands use this pattern of advertisement from an Aprel, Surf Excel to bonus and bright. The
famous slogans used in these ads are promoting a generalization believes that woman are
responsible for specific type of work.
In most of the fairness cream ads woman are stereotyped as beautiful, slim and shows that
fairness is very important to woman and without fair color a woman cannot achieve in practical
life, low confident and shy.
In toilet cleaning products ads woman are showed to cleaning toilets with the Herpac.
Examples of Three Pakistani stereotype Advertisement:
1. Maggi Umda Chawal
Maggi Umda chawal masla is one of the most famous advertisement in which cooking is shown
a routine and important part of woman life and show woman cooking for the whole family and
adding some masala in rice which make the food more delicious which pleases her mother in law
and get rewarded by giving keys of house.
2. Harpic 5X Pakistan (Harpac Hathyaar)
This advertisement portray that ultimate weapon of Pakistan woman is Harpac (a toilet cleaner),
and all the woman are very excited to clean and shine their toilet bowls. In this advertisement
woman are shows that cleaning toilets is their ultimate duty.
3. Bright detergent (Daagh nahi bacha ga)
In this advertisement the family is sitting in the restaurant and her husband drop a curry on his
shirt and he get worried so including his wife and all the other woman start singing nahi bacha
ga, nahi bacha ga. In this whole advertisement the woman are potrayed that washing clothes is
her responsibility and the woman and only problem in her life is how to remove dark hard stains
from clothes.
Definition of intrapersonal communication.
Intrapersonal communication as the word indicate intra which means inside or within so
intrapersonal communication is talking with our self. These self-talk triggered by internal or
external stimuli. For example if I am hungry which is internal stimuli and I talk to myself what to
eat and from where to eat. These messages generated in our brain and the process involve
thinking and feelings.
Role of intrapersonal communication.
Intrapersonal communication play a very vital role in our life. Through intrapersonal
communication we can control our stress and anger and overcome the negative thinking. Can
discover our self and analyze our negative habits and the qualities. It also help in motivation as a
person fully aware of his aims in life and try to achieve them.
Self-management is also an important role of intrapersonal communication because it equip a
person to manage its activities efficiently and effectively.
Self-talk can increase confidence and overcome shyness
Example:
A student is doing preparation for CSS exam and he daily self-talk with himself that he has a
courage and he will do it. He plan in his mind and trying to implement the strategies which he
make through intrapersonal communication hence he get motivated and confident for his
success.
