Mdof S - A M: in Many Engineering Problems It Is Required To Quickly Estimate The First (Fundamental) Natural Frequency

The document describes Dunkerley's method, an approximate method to estimate the fundamental natural frequency of a multi-degree of freedom (MDOF) mechanical system. It presents the derivation of Dunkerley's formula, which relates the first natural frequency to the system's mass and stiffness properties. As an example, it applies the method to calculate the approximate fundamental frequency of a 3-DOF spring-mass system. Dunkerley's formula provides a simple way to quickly estimate the lowest natural frequency of a complex structure without detailed modal analysis.

MDOF SYSTEMS – APPROXIMATE METHODS

o In many engineering problems it is required to quickly

estimate the first (fundamental) natural frequency.

o Approximate methods like Dunkerley’s method,

Rayleigh’s method are used in such cases.
