Who is a Freelancer?
A freelancer is a professional who offers her or his services to one or several clients at once without being
exclusively obligated to any one of them. Freelancers offer varied services and their work can take
different forms. Today, freelancers bring their specialized skills in social media marketing, copywriting,
and publicity. Several freelancers are adept at writing business oriented articles and blog posts while
catering to the web programming and graphic design needs of a business.

What is Freelancing?
Freelancing is working as a self-employed person/professional for multiple employers without a formal
agreement or contract for long period of time. A freelancer may work part-time or full-time and at any
span of time that he/she desires. This is because, basically, there would be no fixed working time like
office hours. This would give the freelancer the benefit of freedom in working hours and working
place/environment. Freelancing has become a popular professional choice lately. On internet, there are
several websites that allow you to find the jobs that people from all over the world post. It is similar to the
very common olx.com. Just like all the sellers post their things to sell on website and buyers contact them
and negotiate the rates, there are websites where people can register as clients (who hire people) or
freelancers (who perform client’s task). The Freelancers Union reports that with more than 55 million
Americans or 35% of the American workforce committed to careers in freelancing, brought a total
earning of about one trillion a year. In free lancing you have multiple of categories to work for, some of
the categories are:

 Graphics & Designing

 Digital Marketing
 Writing and Translation
 Video & Animation
 Music & Audio
 Programing and Technology
 Fun & Lifestyle
 Business and many more.
There won't actually be any pre-defined right time to start freelancing but it’s all about one’s personal
decision as to when he/she would quit working as an employee and start freelancing. However, there is
always a couple of points that would be helpful to decide whether or not to start freelancing. Starting out
as a freelancer can be done quickly if one knows the skill or service they are willing to offer to clients.
Understanding this important facet and where this skill fits in the overall canvas of the industry sets the
pace for the freelancer to begin operating. Once the first step has been achieved, focus shifts onto the next
step, that of finding the first client. This can be effectively done by first building oneself a well populated
website and boosting their Linkedin profile and online resume. In today's hyper connected world, these
two arenas are the first to be investigated to get a ring side view of a professional. Networking begins
within quarters which are well known, be it among old colleagues and professional circles or from
referrals from encouraging friends or online through Linkedin.
You can start freelancing when:
• You feel like you can work on your projects alone
• You have all the necessary skill-sets and tools to get started
• You have good communication skills to seamlessly communicate with clients
• You have good portfolio to showcase your works
• You feel like you can find potential clients who would be interested in working with you

Now the question arise what does it take to start freelancing?

• Build personal portfolio/website to showcase your past work experiences
• Be sure you have good communication skills both written and spoken (English specially)
• Decide and specify your skills or services you would be providing. Be specific on the skill-set and don't
include everything you know but include only few that you are best in.
• Identify your ideal clients and know everything about them.

There are different perks of freelancing which means that freelancing comes with its plentiful perks. Be it
choosing your own working schedule and hours, to deciding on establishing a practice which is full-time
or part-time, the choices are plenty. Furthermore:
Greater control: Freelancing allows to have greater control on the output as well as helping the producer
keeping a stricter control on the products and services. Freelancing is akin to independent contracting
with the freelancer having control over the final product. Given their status in the professional hierarchy,
for tax purposes the Internal Revenue Service’s views them on a different slate all together.
Greater profits: Given freelancing is an exclusive venture, with products made for a particular client,
and given the singular focus a freelancer must give to an assignment, they make more money than a
regular employee. This is also because a freelancer brings a specialty to the table which cannot always be
measured by a regular employee.
As it is an online business therefore it includes different pros and cons which differentiate it from other
online businesses.

Pros Cons
• Work when you want to • You may Constantly looking for Clients
• Work from home or where ever you want • You have to be multi-tasking and have
• Be your own boss multiple skills
• Choose only those projects you want to work on • You do not receive any other benefits like
• Learn as you go, and learn what you want Insurance, allowance, No job guarantee
• Work on a wide variety of projects, not just one • You have to work alone
• Cut off your expenses • Creativity is one of the major problem in
• No dress code Freelancing
• Have your personal life • You have to self-motivated

Making peace with the ebbs and flows of assignment and money is something a freelancer is essential.
There will be lean patches which the freelancer must make compensations with conversely, there are
phases where there is more work than time at hand and yet a freelance must show commitment to both the
assignments and clients. During these times keeping track of deadlines and pacing themselves to deliver
quality work on time is important. Thus, time management and organizational skills are key determinants
of success for a freelancer.

Platforms/Websites for freelancing are:

There
are some difference in these platform or we call it their uniqueness. Upwork

How to write a successful proposal that wins you the freelancing project?
Project proposal is the first and almost the only thing that would make the client decide whether to award
you the project or not. So writing a good and intuitive project proposal is of primary importance. Here are
few points to be noted before placing a bid and writing a successful proposal. Write your understanding
about the project (let the client believe you understand his need). Address the client’s requirement for the
project and recommend your solution to it if needed. Let him know about the benefits he would get from
you and your solution. Project fees (let it tie up with the recommended solutions and don't scare client
with your price). Your skills and past works that are similar to the ideal project. Put ahead any question
you think would be helpful in understanding the project.
Don't bid on every project, this could make the clients feel cheap about you. Always read the project
details and understand it fully beforehand. Avoid template or scripted proposal. Custom tailored proposal
should be written for each project. Try not to underbid or overbid. Define time frame wisely, stating too
long or too short time frame won't be helpful. Check on the client’s history. Don't forget to proofread your
bid.

Mode of payments in Freelancing:

you want top-notch clients, it’s worth investing thought, time, and even money into doing it right. If
