Effect Of Covid-19 on Education System in India

The COVID-19 crisis has resulted in India going into an unprecedented lockdown in the months
of March and April 2020. The effect of pandemic has been felt in many sectors across the
country. The Indian Government has issued several guidelines including restriction on
movement of people and social distancing in order to control the spread of novel coronavirus.

Many State governments began shutting schools and colleges temporarily somewhere in the
second week of March as a measure to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus. This is a crucial
time for education sector as board examinations, university examinations, admission in schools,
entrance tests for most colleges and universities and competitive examinations are held during
this period only. When the days go by without an urgent solution to stop the Covid-19
outbreak, school and university closures will not only have a short-term effect on the quality of
learning for over 285 million young learners in India but will also have far-reaching economic
and social implications.

The schooling and learning system, including methodologies for teaching and evaluation, was
the first to be impacted by those closures. Only a handful of private schools may follow
methods of teaching online. On the other hand, their low-income private and government
school peers have shut down completely for not having access to e-learning solutions.

However, the greater worry for everyone's mind is the impact the disease has on the rate of
work. Because of the current situation, recent graduates in India fear withdrawal of job offers
from corporates. The figures of the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy on unemployment
increased from 8.4% in mid-March to 23% in early April and the rate of urban unemployment to
30.9%.

Next, let's see what every educational institution is doing to counter COVID-19.

Measures taken by the educational institutes are as follows:

- Closed schools

- Postponed or rescheduled the examinations

- Cleaning and sanitization of premises.

- Consideration of long term uncertainty etc.
