1.3 Installing and Uninstalling

[Installation Method]
① Save the file (compressed file) download from our website to arbitrary folders.
② Extract the file (compressed file).
③ Double-click "Setup.exe" (the “.exe" name extension may hide depending on the
execution environment) in the decompressed folder, and install the rest according
to directions of an installer.

* In upgrading the version, before performing the above procedures, be


sure to uninstall the software that is before version upgrade.

[Uninstallation method]
Go to "Programs and Features" (for Windows 10) in the Control Panel, and then
execute uninstallation.

1.4 Start-up Method
Double-click the [CONTROL MOTOR SIZING] icon on the desktop. Or from the
[Start] menu, select and click [Programs] --> [ORIENTAL MOTOR] --> [CONTROL
MOTOR SIZING].

2. Precautions

2.1 Motor Sizing


This software is for selecting the motor model. Operation patterns need to be
calculated separately.
In addition, note that items such as the static friction torque for the electromagnetic
brake, torque for the current cutback function, regeneration operation energy, and
stopping accuracy of gear reducer are not considered.
In this software, there are portions where the calculation formula and input values
are simplified.
Therefore, calculation results and actual conditions may differ.

2.2 Others
・Intellectual property rights, including this software copyrights are owned by Oriental
Motor Co., Ltd. ("Oriental Motor"), and permission is granted to the User by Oriental
Motor for usage. Intellectual property rights for this software are not transferred to the
User. In addition, the User must comply with precautions in this page.

3. How to use

3.1 Sizing Software Overview


This sizing software uses the following five main processes for selecting a motor.
The following sections will explain details such as terms and input items
for each process.

Start-up of Application

① Drive Mechanism Select a drive mechanism such as a screw, belt, or the like.
Selection (Refer to the section 3.2. for details)

② Mechanism Input a mechanism specification such as a load mass and others.


Specification Input (Refer to the section 3.3. for details)

③ Motor Type Selection After selecting a motor type, input conditions such as positioning
Operating Condition distance, positioning time and others.
Input (Refer to the section 3.4. for details)

Select a motor model. (Refer to the section 3.5. for details)


④ Motor Selection

⑤ Sizing Result
The sizing result is shown. (Refer to the section 3.6. for details)

3.2 Drive Mechanism Selection Screen

[Screw]
Move to the Motor Sizing - Specification Input Screen for when performing
positioning operations with ball screws, slide screws, or other screw mechanisms.

[Belt]
Move to the Motor Sizing - Specification Input Screen for when performing
positioning operations with timing belts, V belts, or other belt and pulley
mechanisms, and with chain sprocket mechanisms.

[Rack-and-Pinion]
Move to the Motor Sizing - Specification Input Screen for when performing
positioning operations with a rack-and-pinion mechanism.

[Roll Feed]
Move to the Motor Sizing - Specification Input Screen for when performing feed
operations with a roll feed mechanism.

[Index Table]
Move to the Motor Sizing - Specification Input Screen for when performing angle
indexing operations with an index table.

[Arm]
Move to the Motor Sizing - Specification Input Screen for when performing angle
indexing operations with an arm mechanism or a rectangular pillar.

[Manual Calculation]
Move to the Motor Sizing - Specification Input Screen for when performing
positioning operations with a mechanism other than the above, or for when the load
torque and the moment of load inertia are already determined.
Specify the moment of load inertia, load torque, and travel amount per revolution
using the real value.

[Moment of Inertia Calculation]


Move to the Inertia Body Calculation Screen. This is used for when the transfer
mechanism in manual calculation or other moment of inertia is calculated.

[Exit]
Close the application.

3.3 Specification Input Procedure

according to the Selected Mechanism


[Screw Specification Input]

Be sure to input the yellow colored items. The following are the values that are input for these items.

[Transfer Mechanism Calculation]


Select Enable or Disable.
Disable: When a motor and a screw are directly connected.
Enable: When a motor and a screw are connected such as through a gear or a pulley.
If Enable is selected, press Transfer Mechanism Calculation button to move to
the screen of Transfer Mechanism Calculation.

[Total Mass of Table and Load]


Input a total mass of the moving part (object in linear motion).
When a screw is fixed and a nut moves: Nut Mass + Table Mass + Load Mass [kg]
When a nut is fixed and a screw moves: Screw Mass + Table Mass + Load Mass [kg]

[External Force]
Input an external force that is applied to the screw shaft direction.

[Other Moment of Inertia]


Moment of inertia other than the main mechanism such as a coupling can be
calculated.
Pressing Moment of Inertia Calculation button will move to the screen of Moment of
Inertia Calculation_1.

[Shaft Diameter]
Input a screw shaft diameter.

[Overall Length]
Input an overall screw length.

[Lead]
Input a screw lead.

[Material]
Select a screw material.
* When a special material screw is used, select [Others] and directly input the numerical value of
density. (Refer to the section 4. List of Constant/General Values)

[Density]
When something other than [Others] is selected for the material, it is input
automatically.
(Refer to the section 4. List of Constant/General Values)

[Efficiency]
Select a screw type.
* To directly specify efficiency, select [Others] and edit the efficiency value.
(Refer to the section 4. List of Constant/General Values)

[Preload] Select a preload. ※ The default value is a representative value.

[Internal Friction Coefficient of Preload Nut]


Input an internal friction coefficient of the preload nut. ※ The default value is a representative
value.

[Sliding Surface Friction Coefficient]


Input a friction coefficient of the sliding surface. Input the numerical value according
to whether there is a guide or the guide type. ※ Reference value With guide: 0.05∼0.1
Without guide: 0.1∼0.3 (Refer to the section 4. List of Constant/General Values)

[Tilt Angle]
Input a tilt angle of the screw. (0∼90deg) ※ Horizontal-drive (0deg), Vertical-drive (90deg)

[Back]
Return to the Drive Mechanism Selection Screen. Values input in items will be
cleared at that time.

[Next]
Move to the Operating Condition Input Screen. If there are missing input items or if an
input value is incorrect, a warning message appears, and you cannot move to the
next screen.

[Belt Specification Input]

Be sure to input the yellow colored items. The following are the values that are input for these items.

[Transfer Mechanism]
Select Enable or Disable.
Disable: When a motor and a pulley are directly connected.
Enable: When a motor and a pulley are connected such as through a gear or a pulley.
If Enable is selected, press Transfer Mechanism Calculation button to move to the
screen of Transfer Mechanism Calculation.

[Total mass of belt and load]


Input a total mass of the moving part (object in linear motion).

[External Force]
Input an external force that is applied to the belt direction.

[Other Moment of Inertia]


Moment of inertia other than the main mechanism such as a coupling can be
calculated.
Pressing Moment of Inertia Calculation button will move to the screen of Moment of
Inertia Calculation_1.

[Sliding Surface Friction Coefficient]


Input a friction coefficient of the sliding surface. Input the numerical value according
to whether there is a guide or the guide type.
* Reference value With guide: 0.05∼0.1 Without guide: 0.1∼0.3

[Tilt Angle]
Input a tilt angle of the belt. (0∼90deg)

[Pulley Calculation]
Select from the following.
* Density: Calculates the moment of inertia for the pulley from the density.
* Mass: Calculates from the mass of the moment of inertia for the pulley.

[Diameter]
Input a pulley diameter.

[Width]
Input a pulley width when density is selected for pulley calculation.

[Material]
Select a pulley material when density is selected for pulley calculation.
* When a special material is used, select [Others] and directly input the numerical value of density.
(Refer to the section 4. List of Constant/General Values)

[Density]
Input when density is selected for pulley calculation. When something other than
[Others] is selected for the material, it is input automatically.
(Refer to the section 4. List of Constant/General Values)

[Mass]
Input a mass per pulley when mass is selected for pulley calculation.

[Quantity]
Input the number of pulleys.

[Efficiency]
Input an efficiency.
* Reference Value Timing Belt: 0.9 V Belt: 0.7 Chain: 0.6

[Back]
Return to the Drive Mechanism Selection Screen.
Values input in items will be cleared at that time.

[Next]
Move to the Operating Condition Input Screen. If there are missing input items or if an
input value is incorrect, a warning message appears, and you cannot move to the
next screen.

[Rack-and-Pinion Specification Input]

Be sure to input the yellow colored items. The following are the values that are input for

[Transfer Mechanism]
Select Enable or Disable.
Disable: When a motor and a pulley-and-pinion part are directly connected.
Enable: When a motor and a pinion part are connected such as through a gear or a pulley.
If Enable is selected, press Transfer Mechanism Calculation button to move to the
screen of Transfer Mechanism Calculation.

[Rack Mass] [Motor Mass]


By selecting either the "Motor" or "Rack" in the frame of the fixed side, the input frame
on the moving side of the "Rack Mass" or "Motor Mass" is displayed.
Input a mass for the displayed side.

[Load Mass]
Input a mass of the load (object in linear motion).

[External Force]
Input an external force that is applied to the rack direction.

[Other Moment of Inertia]


Moment of inertia other than the main mechanism such as a coupling can be calculated.
Pressing Moment of Inertia Calculation button will move to the screen of Moment of
Inertia Calculation_1.

Select a pinion material when density is selected for pinion calculation.

[Density]
Input when density is selected for pinion calculation. When something other than
[Others] is selected for the material, it is input automatically.

[Mass]
Input a mass per pinion when mass is selected for pinion calculation.

[Efficiency]
Input an efficiency.
* Reference value 0.8∼0.9 (Refer to the section 4. List of Constant/General Values)

[Back]
Return to the Drive Mechanism Selection Screen. Values input in items will be
cleared at that time.

[Next]
Move to the Operating Condition Input Screen. If there are missing input items or if an

[Roll Feed Specification Input]

Be sure to input the yellow colored items. The following are the values that are input for these items.

[Transfer Mechanism]
Select Enable or Disable.
Disable: When a motor and a pulley-and-pinion part are directly connected.
Enable: When a motor and a pinion part are connected such as through a gear or a pulley.
If Enable is selected, press Transfer Mechanism Calculation button to move to the
screen of Transfer Mechanism Calculation.

[Load Mass]
Input a mass of the load.

[Tension]
Input a tension on the load.

[Other Moment of Inertia]


Moment of inertia other than the main mechanism such as a coupling can be
calculated.
Pressing Moment of Inertia Calculation button will move to the screen of Moment of
Inertia Calculation_1.

[Roller Calculation]
Select from the following.
* Density: Calculates the moment of inertia for the roller from the density.
Mass: Calculates from the mass of the moment of inertia for the roller.

[Diameter]
Input a roller diameter.

[Width]
Input a roller width when density is selected for roller calculation.

[Material]
Select a roller material when density is selected for roller calculation.
* When a special material is used, select [Others] and directly input the numerical value of density.

[Density]
Input when density is selected for roller calculation. When something other than
[Others] is selected for the material, it is input automatically.

[Mass]
Input a mass per roller when mass is selected for roller calculation.

[Pressure]
Input a pressurizing force for when the roller is pressed on the load.

[Quantity]
Input the number of rollers.

[Efficiency]
Input an efficiency.

[Sliding Surface Friction Coefficient]


Input a friction coefficient of the sliding surface. Input the numerical value according
to the material and surface roughness for the load and the base part. (Refer to the
section 4. List of Constant/General Values)

[Tilt Angle]
Input a tilt angle of the load. (0∼90deg)
※ Horizontal-drive (0deg), Vertical-drive (90deg)

[Back]
Return to the Drive Mechanism Selection Screen. Values input in items will be
cleared at that time.

[Next]
Move to the Operating Condition Input Screen. If there are missing input items or if an

[Index Table Specification Input]

Be sure to input the yellow colored items. The following are the values that are input for these items.

[Transfer Mechanism]
Select Enable or Disable.
Disable: When a motor and a pulley-and-pinion part are directly connected.
Enable: When a motor and a pinion part are connected such as through a gear or a pulley.
If Enable is selected, press Transfer Mechanism Calculation button to move to the
screen of Transfer Mechanism Calculation.

[Load]
Select Enable or Disable of a load.
If Enable is selected, pressing Moment of Inertia of a Load Calculation button will
move to the screen of Moment of Inertia of a Load Calculation.

[Quantity]
Input the number of loads.

[Distance]
Input a distance from the rotation axis of the table to the center of gravity of the load.

[Table Calculation]
Select from the following.
* Density: Calculates the moment of inertia for the table from the density.
Mass: Calculates from the mass of the moment of inertia for the table.

[Diameter]
Input a table diameter.

[Thickness]
Input a table thickness when density is selected for table calculation.

[Material]
Select a table material when density is selected for table calculation.
* When a special material is used, select [Others] and directly input the numerical value of density.

[Density]
Input when density is selected for table calculation. When something other than
[Others] is selected for the material, it is input automatically.

[Mass]
Input a table mass when mass is selected for table calculation.

[Load Torque Calculation]


If a frictional resistance or a load torque by external force is applied, pressing Load
Torque Calculation button will move to the screen of the Load Torque Calculation.

[Other Moment of Inertia]


Moment of inertia other than the main mechanism such as a coupling can be
calculated.
Pressing Moment of Inertia Calculation button will move to the screen of Moment of
Inertia Calculation_1.

[Back]
Return to the Drive Mechanism Selection Screen. Values input in items will be
cleared at that time.

[Next]
Move to the Operating Condition Input Screen. If there are missing input items or if an
input value is incorrect, a warning message appears, and you cannot move to the
next screen.

[Arm Specification Input]

Be sure to input the yellow colored items. The following are the values that are input for these items.

[Selecting Rotation in the vertical plane or Rotation in the horizontal plane]


Select whether to rotate in the vertical plane or the horizontal plane. If the rotation in
the vertical plane is selected, the arm mass is added to the load torque.

[Transfer Mechanism]
Select Enable or Disable.
Disable: When a motor and a pulley are directly connected.
Enable: When a motor and a pulley are connected such as through a gear or a pulley.
If Enable is selected, press Transfer Mechanism Calculation button to move to the
screen of Transfer Mechanism Calculation.

[Calculation Mode]
Select from the following.
* Density: Calculates the moment of inertia for the arm from the density.
Mass: Calculates from the mass of the moment of inertia for the arm.

[A] [B] [C] [e]


Input a dimension of the arm.

Moment of inertia other than the main mechanism such as a coupling can be
calculated.
Pressing Moment of Inertia Calculation button will move to the screen of Moment of
Inertia Calculation_1.

[Material]
Select an arm material when density is selected for the calculation mode.
* When a special material is used, select [Others] and directly input the numerical value of density.

[Density]
Input when density is selected for the calculation mode. When something other than
[Others] is selected for the material, it is input automatically.

[Mass]
Input an arm mass when mass is selected for the calculation mode.

[Back]
Return to the Drive Mechanism Selection Screen.
Values input in items will be cleared at that time.

[Next]
Move to the Operating Condition Input Screen. If there are missing input items or if an
input value is incorrect, a warning message appears, and you cannot move to the
next screen.

[Manual Calculation]

Be sure to input the yellow colored items. The following are the values that are input for these items.

[Motor Type]
Select a motor type to be used.

[Calculation Method]
Select from the following.
Travel Amount Specification: Specify a travel amount. The rotation speed is calculated
automatically.
Rotation Speed Specification: Specify a rotation speed. The travel amount is calculated
automatically.
* For brushless motors, only rotation speed can be specified.

[Operation Pattern]
Select either acceleration/deceleration operation or self-start operation
(rectangular operation).
Acceleration/deceleration operation: This is an operation with an acceleration time and
deceleration time.
Self-start operation (rectangular operation): This is an operation without an acceleration time and
deceleration time.
* Self-start operation can be selected when the motor type is of stepping motor.

[Load Torque]
Input a load torque for the primary side.

[Moment of Load Inertia]
Input a moment of load inertia for the primary side.

[Travel Amount per Revolution]


Input a load travel amount per revolution of the motor output shaft in the primary
side.

[Travel Time]
Input a travel time of the motor.

[Rotation Speed]
Input is available when rotation speed specification is selected for the calculation
method. Input a rotation speed ([r/min] Unit).

[Travel Amount]
Input is available when travel amount specification is selected for the calculation.
Input the actual travel amount ([mm]/[deg] Unit).

[Acceleration Time]
Input an acceleration (deceleration) time of the motor.
The acceleration time and the deceleration time are the same value.

[Stopping Time]
Input is available when servo motor or brushless motor is selected in the motor
type. Input a stopping time of the motor.

[Back]
Return to the Mechanism Specification Input Screen. The input value for each item
is saved.

[Next]
Move to the Motor Selection Screen. If there are missing input items or if an input
value is incorrect, a warning message appears.

[Moment of Inertia Calculation]

Calculate the moment of inertia for cylinder, hollow cylinder, rectangular pillar, and
linear motion.
This is a screen for only calculating the moment of inertia not the Mechanism
Specification Input.

[Cancel]
Return to the Drive Mechanism Selection Screen.
Values input in items and the calculation result will be cleared at that time.

[Calculation]
Calculate to determine the moment of inertia.

[Transfer Mechanism Calculation]

[Calculation Method 1]
Select from the following.
* Density: Calculates the moment of inertia for the transfer mechanism part from the density.
Mass: Calculates from the mass of the moment of inertia for the transfer mechanism part.

[Calculation Method 2]
Select from the following.
* Diameter speed reduction: Calculates the reduction ratio by dividing the diameter for the secondary side pulley
by the diameter for the primary side pulley.
Number of teeth speed reduction: Calculates the reduction ratio by dividing the number of teeth for the
secondary side by the number of teeth for the primary side.

[Primary Side Pulley Diameter, Secondary Side Pulley Diameter]


Input a diameter for the primary side pulley and a diameter for the secondary side
pulley.
In the case of a gear or sprocket, input the diameter.

[Primary Side Pulley Width, Secondary Side Pulley Width]


Input a width for the primary side pulley and a width for the secondary side pulley
when density is selected for the Calculation Method 1.

[Primary Side Density, Secondary Side Density]


Select a material for the primary side pulley and a material for the secondary side
pulley when density is selected for the Calculation Method 1. The density is input
automatically if the material is selected.
* When a special material is used, select [Others] and directly input the numerical value of density.
(Refer to the section 4. List of Constant/General Values)

[Primary Side Pulley Mass, Secondary Side Pulley Mass]
Input a mass for the primary side pulley and a mass for the secondary side pulley
when mass is selected for the Calculation Method 1.

[Efficiency]
Input an efficiency.
* Reference value 0.8∼0.9 (Refer to the section 4. List of Constant/General Values)

[Primary Side Number of Teeth, Secondary Side Number of Teeth]


Input the numbers of teeth for the primary side pulley and the secondary side pulley
when the number of teeth speed reduction is selected for the Calculation Method 2.

[Cancel]
Return to the Specification Input Screen.
Values input in items will be cleared at that time.

[Calculation]
Calculate to determine the moment of inertia for the transfer mechanism and the
reduction ratio for the transfer mechanism.
The screen cannot return to the Specification Input Screen with OK button until the
value is determined.

[OK]
Return to the Specification Input Screen.
Values input in items will be saved at that time.

[Moment of Inertia Calculation_1]

Moment of inertia other than the main mechanism such as a coupling can be
calculated with the value of the primary side.
This screen appears when Moment of Inertia Calculation button is pressed on the
Specification Input Screen for each mechanism.
Up to 5 types of the moment of inertia can be calculated. The moment of inertia 1 to
the moment of inertia 5 are converted to the primary side to be "other moment of
inertia."

[Transfer Mechanism]
Select the primary side or the secondary side.

Move to the screen for the Moment of Inertia Calculation 2.

Return to the Specification Input Screen.
Values input in items will be cleared at that time.

Calculate to determine the moment of inertia for the transfer mechanism and the
reduction ratio for the transfer mechanism.
The screen cannot return to the Specification Input Screen with OK button until the
value is determined.

Return to the Specification Input Screen.

3.4 Operating Condition Input

Be sure to input the yellow colored items. The following are the values that are input for

[Motor Type]
Select a motor type to be used.

[Calculation Method]
Select from the following.
Travel Amount Specification: Specify a travel amount. The rotation speed is calculated
automatically.
Rotation Speed Specification: Specify a rotation speed. The travel amount is calculated
automatically.
* For brushless motors, only rotation speed can be specified.

[Operation Pattern]
Select either acceleration/deceleration operation or self-start operation (rectangular
operation).
Acceleration/deceleration operation: This is an operation with an acceleration time and deceleration
time.
Self-start operation (rectangular operation): This is an operation without an acceleration time and
deceleration time.
* Self-start operation can be selected when the motor type is of stepping motor.

[Travel Time]
Input a travel time of the load.

[Rotation Speed]
Input is available when rotation speed specification is selected for the calculation
method.
Input a rotation speed ([r/min] Unit) of the secondary side axis.

[Travel Amount]
Input is available when travel amount specification is selected for the calculation.
Input the actual travel amount ([mm]/[deg] Unit).

[Acceleration Time]
Input an acceleration time of the motor. The deceleration time is the same value as
the acceleration time.

[Stopping Time]
Input is required when servo motor or brushless motor is selected in the motor type.
Input the motor stopping time when starting and stopping.

[Back]
Return to the Mechanism Specification Input Screen. The input value for each item is
saved.

[Next]
Move to the Motor Selection Screen. If there are missing input items or if an input
value is incorrect, a warning message appears, and you cannot move to the next
screen.

3.5 Motor Selection

Input all for the item.


The selection list for each item displays the values that can be selected according to the motor type and series.

[Power Supply Voltage]


Select an operating voltage.

[Driver Type]
Select a driver type.

[Series Name]
Select a series. The series for the motor type selected from the Operating Condition
Input Screen is displayed.

[Gear (backlash)]
Select a geared type. If the geared type is not used, select [No].

[Electromagnetic Brake]
Select with or without an electromagnetic brake.

[Cable Length (m)]


Specify a cable length between the motor and the driver. If not specified, select 1.
This item cannot be selected depending on the series.

[Safety Factor]
Specify a safety factor. It can be set to 1.0 and above, using increments of 0.1.
* Reference: Oriental Motor recommends 2.0 times or higher.

[Motor Search]
Search for a compatible motor from the motors that meet the specified conditions.
This button cannot be pressed if there are insufficient search conditions.

[Sizing Result List]


The sizing result for the specified motors is displayed.

[To TOP screen]


Return to the Drive Mechanism Selection Screen. All input data will be deleted at that
time.

[Back]
Move to the Operating Condition Input Screen. The input values in items will be
saved.

[Next]
Move to the Sizing Results Screen. This is enabled for use after an arbitrary motor is
selected from the motors that meet the conditions.

Display the previous Print Screen page. This cannot be used when the first page of
the Print Screen is displayed.

[Next Page]
Display the next Print Screen page. This cannot be used when the last page of the
Print Screen is displayed.

[Print] Print the sizing results.

[Save]
Save the sizing results to the computer. At that time, the Customer Information
Input Screen is displayed. If the customer information is not needed, select [OK] to
skip.
