Web 2 Assignment
1. INTRODUCTION
We will be reviewing 12 websites and see how different or similar they are to each other. We
are basing ourselves on the criteria listed below:

1.1. Functionality
Functionality is very important for website who are selling products or reserving places for
restaurants, hospitals, government appointments etc. The website should work smoothly and
look easy to use. The best way to check this is by looking if all the pages are accessible.
Sometimes websites need to the visitor to accept cookies before they can fully access the
website. (Circle, 2020)

1.2. Authority
When you make a website, it does not automatically become the first search when you look
it up on google. It takes time to make your website credibly to customers, other companies,
and online search engines. (Patel, 2020)

1.3. Attractiveness
The attractiveness of a website depends on who the target is. One person can find a colorful
website very engaging while someone else could find it very excessive. Can we read the font
(letter type) or is it too small or too big? (Minick, 2019)

1.4. Content
The content should the most important aspect when looking at a website. Can we find all the
necessary information? Does the website display the core information about their business?
Can we see all the products that they offer? Etc. (Mason, 2020)

2. WEBSITES
2.1. Turkish Airlines
Functionality:
The website of the company, Turkish Airlines, is an intuitive website. It did not take a lot of
getting used to. Every function is easy to navigate through. Also, the site has the option to log
in with your personal account to easily track monitor your flight, check YourMiles and many
other handy information. (TurkishAirlines, 2020)

Authority:
Turkish Airlines is one of the biggest and famous commercial airlines company in the world,
so naturally it has a big credibility in the business. It was extremely easy to find the website, it
was even recommended just after typing in the first words of “Turkish Airlines”.

Attractiveness:
Personally, I like the design of the website. They chose a more neutral design language which
is suited to their business. Every tab and page are tremendously clear, that is because of the
big font and the clear colour schemes. Another neat feature is the use of colours, they manly
use red and white as theme colour. Because those are the colours of the Turkish flag.

Content:
The site is very much
straightforward, you can find the
information that you are looking
for. It is mainly used to book flights
or check the booked flights for
delays. By that, the core business of
the airline company is booking
flights for the customers and that is
easy to navigate through.
(TurkishAirlines, 2020)

2.2. Choumicha
Functionality:
The website contains many recipes of traditional Moroccan
dishes, but it is hard to find exactly what you are looking for.
All the recipes are organised by meets, desserts, vegetables
etc. and you cannot search up words to specifically find
something. It is also very easy to register. You will then get
the option to comment and save recipes. You can only access
the site in French and Arabic. (Choumicha, 2020)

Authority:
When you look up the female chef Choumicha, you find her website below her Wikipedia
page. It is a good sign that you find the website on the first page of your search. The name of
the website is her name which makes it easier for google to put the site on the second place.

Attractiveness:
The Choumicha website is very colourful, but the main colours are dark pink and green. The
colours match very well with the pictures and videos of the dishes. The background is beige
and dark beige which makes it a bit harder to read because the colour of the font is dark grey.
The colours are personally not my favourite because they look very exaggerated.

Content:
The website is full of recipes and videos of Choumicha where she carries out the recipes. You
can find all the instructions, ingredients, and pictures of the recipes. The website let’s people
sign up so can you ask questions. The chef herself can answer your question but the other
people part of the community can also respond and help you out. They have a page dedicated
to products that are in season and recipes who use those products. (Choumicha, 2020)

Radhia Tebbi, Zoubeda El Ayadi, Duc-Huy Nguyen, Abdelkrim Azouakine & Mohamed Abihi –
2IBM03
2.3. Mercedes
Functionality:
Mercedes-Benz is one of the biggest and innovative car manufacturers in the world, so it is no
surprise that their website is self-explanatory and easy. You can browse the website if you
want to know their fleet of vehicles or read about the new technology that is fitted to their
cars. You can even configurate your own dream car and order it all online. (Mercedes Benz,
2020)

Authority:
It is the official Mercedes-Benz website. So, the information found on the website regarding
the vehicles are legit. The website itself was easy to find, since Mercedes-Benz is one of the
biggest companies.

Attractiveness:
Me personally, I am pleased with the theme design they chose for their site. In my eyes it is
the same design language as the cars, futuristic, modern, and appealing for the younger
crowd. However, the theme colours they use are rather professional and premium looking,
not something that necessarily would attract the younger people.

Content:
One of the functions you can do is check out the range of cars. They offer for example:
compact cars, SUV, vans, station wagons and even Electric. Once you picked the vehicle you
want, there is a possibility to configurate the car to your own liking. You can even book a test
drive.
The other function of the website is to get information, you can read more in detail about
various safety and comfort features that Mercedes-Benz innovate to improve the user’s
driving experience. There is also a financial calculating programme where you can see the
different options to finance for a potential purchase. (Mercedes Benz, 2020)

Radhia Tebbi, Zoubeda El Ayadi, Duc-Huy Nguyen, Abdelkrim Azouakine & Mohamed Abihi –
2IBM03
2.4. Royal Dutch Shell
Functionality:
The website of Shell is a little bit complex but still relatively user-friendly. Navigating through
the stacked site is easy because of the nice main menu. The reason why is if you click on one
of the headlines in the main menu a drop-down menu shows up with sub-headlines to break
down the content even more. Which is very nice if the user is looking for something specific.
The main body is also easy to navigate. It exists out of a slider with eye-catchers and under
the slider, the content (articles) is nicely sorted into a newspaper-style. The footer is nothing
special, but it does not have to be as long as it is functional. (Shell, 2020)

Authority:
Royal Dutch Shell website info is quite credible but you still have to keep in mind that they
post will mainly be positive. Royal Dutch Shell page is located on the first page on the 3th/4th
place which is good rank if you search for Royal Dutch Shell. (35 100 000 results)

Attractiveness:
The site looks very professional because it is very clean. The colours of the site consist out of
their corporation colours (red and yellow) and basic colours. It has a white background and a
black text colour. The site has a lot of images that are relevant to the subject which makes it
more interesting to look at. The site lay-out and letter type and the font sizes are very
consistent throughout the whole website.

Content:
The content of the site is about what the company does and what they stand for. It is about
the company’s vision and plans for the future. The site contains info about a lot of things and
for all kinds of people: shareholders, (potential) business partners, (potential) employees,
customers, etc. The main purpose of the site is to inform people. It can also be used to get
into touch with the company. (Shell, 2020)

Radhia Tebbi, Zoubeda El Ayadi, Duc-Huy Nguyen, Abdelkrim Azouakine & Mohamed Abihi –
2IBM03
2.5. Aliexpress
Functionality:
The website of AliExpress is a bit weird to
use and has a lot of interactive elements
which can be overwhelming at times for its
users. The homepage of the site has a basic
main menu and a side bar. The site also has
a search bar which can be a handy tool for
users that are searching for a specific item.
If the user does not exactly know what they
are searching for then they can use
categories to filter. Unfortunately, there is
not a real filter to filter products.
Categories on the site can be really confusing
though as there are three different ways to
select a category. One way is to use the side
bar, another way is to click on categories next
to the search bar and the last way is to use the
pictograms on the right. But once gone from
the homepage it is more difficult to select a
new category and after you have chosen a
category you can’t choose another one
without login into the site which is a bit
inconvenient.
The homepage has a slider (which shows the best-sellers), and the products are divided into a
tile-design which works perfectly for an e-commerce site. You can easily change languages
and their footer is nicely done as well. The popups can be very handy as well for users as it
informs them about coupons. (AliExpress, 2020)

Authority
Aliexepress is the first result you found in Google if you directly search for it. It is already
recommended to you if you type “alie” in the search bar. The ranking is a very important
thing for online webshops. The site information is credibly as there are regulations against
misleading/ disinforming consumers.

Radhia Tebbi, Zoubeda El Ayadi, Duc-Huy Nguyen, Abdelkrim Azouakine & Mohamed Abihi –
2IBM03
Attractiveness:
The site is colourful which makes the users feel
welcome and cheerful. The background colour is
based on which category you have selected. The
site has of images of their products which gives
their customers a clear view of what they will
purchase. The site looks less credible though as a
lot of products are on a discount. (or there are a
lot of amazing deals) They cleverly uses different font sizes to steer people attention to certain
items. There are also ads which is logical because they are trying to influence their users
buying behaviour.

Content:
The purpose of the site is to advertise their products and to sell them. The sites mainly consist
out of the products that they are offering to their customers. It can also be used by the user
to inform themselves as there are product descriptions and info about the products.
(AliExpress, 2020)

Radhia Tebbi, Zoubeda El Ayadi, Duc-Huy Nguyen, Abdelkrim Azouakine & Mohamed Abihi –
2IBM03
2.6. Maroc
Functionality:
Looking at the homepage of the official
website of the Moroccan government, it is
very easy to see what it has to offer, but not
every subpage works when you click on it. You
can access the website in Arabic, Berber,
French, English, and Spanish which is very
good. Changing to French, Spanish and Arabic
was very easy and did not cause any
problems, but they did not fully translate the
website to Berber even though they did give
us an option for it. (Morocco , 2020)

Authority:
When you search ‘Morocco’ on google, do not see the official website on the first page. You
first see the Wikipedia page and travel websites that offer holiday plans to people. It is
necessary to add the word ‘website’ after Morocco to find the official website of the country.
This is mainly because the site is called ‘Maroc’, which is Morocco in French.

Attractiveness:
I personally do not find the website attractive or appealing to look at. They are using the colour
red, green, white, and turquoise. Red and green are the colours of the Moroccan flag, so it
does makes sense to use it for the official website. The website is updated frequently, but the
lay-out of the site has stayed the same for a long time.

Content:
The purpose of the Moroccan website is to give more information about the country and what
it offers. You can find articles about the king of Morocco and all the conferences of the
councillors of Morocco. The official site offers the basic information that you will need to know
about the country (geographical, population etc.) and it displays future projects that the
Morocco is planning. It also offers services for students, Moroccans living abroad and online
payment of taxes. (Morocco , 2020)

2.7. Vietnam times
Functionality:
The homepage of the site has a basic main menu, but it does not have to be anything fancy.
The moving news bar is handy for its readers to stay up to date to things. You can click on one
of the titles on the news bar if you want more info on the subject which is a nice additional
feature. The site has on both side a sidebar, the headliner is located in between those sidebars
which is logical because it highlights the most important article. The rest of the sites exist out
of the categories in the main menu with it on headliner. The remaining articles are sorted into
two collums. You can eaily change languages at the top of the site. The footer exist out of
contact details and the homepage. (Vietnam Times, 2020)

The other pages of the site have a similar style in the beginning but differ a little as the articles
are placed in one row and have a picture and some additional text under the title.

Authority:
The Vietnamese Times is located on
the first page of Google on the
bottom if you search for Vietnamese
newspaper which is relatively high.
But compared to other Vietnamese
newssite it is quite low. (112 000 000
results. The site is quite credibly as it
is a news site.

Attractiveness:
The site does not look necessary attractive or unattractive to me. The articles have fitting
images which make the site more interesting. The site has a blue and red colour scheme and
a white background. This colour scheme is very consistent throughout the site, as are the font
sizes and letter types. A white background might be attractive to newsreaders as paper is also
white. I noticed that a lot of news sites have a white background. It could symbolize neutrality
which is very important in the journalistic world.

Radhia Tebbi, Zoubeda El Ayadi, Duc-Huy Nguyen, Abdelkrim Azouakine & Mohamed Abihi –
2IBM03
Content:
The content of the site exists out of articles related to Vietnam and its allies and its
communities around the globe. The sites also contain advertising targeted for Vietnamese
readers. (Vietnam Times, 2020)

2.8. FAF
Functionality:
The Algerian website of FAF the organization of the football in Algeria is rather simple. It is
user-friendly but I found somethings that could be rather confusing for new users.
On the left corner of the website you have the date of the day you are visiting next to it you
have the language of the website. You will see an arrow I assumed that I would be able to
change the language if I click on it. That was not the case which left me rather confused. It is
only for people who understand French or Arabic. These are the two main languages in
Algeria.
You get a notification that the site is not secure which makes it untrustworthy. Aside from that
they offer a main menu that makes it easy to find what you are looking for. It also offers a
search engine which is convenient. You cannot register to the website which I think should be
available if you want to be updated on the news of the football teams.
The home page is easy to navigate. On the right bottom corner, they offer an arrow that brings
you back to the top. I think that is a plus point, so you will not have to keep scrolling.
(Fédération algérienne de football, 2020)

Radhia Tebbi, Zoubeda El Ayadi, Duc-Huy Nguyen, Abdelkrim Azouakine & Mohamed Abihi –
2IBM03
Authority:
When you search for the word FAF which is what this website is called it does not show up on
top of the page. You must scroll a little to find it. FAF is an abbreviation of Fédération
Algérienne de Football. If you search for the full meaning of FAF the website does come up as
first. FAF by itself has deferent meanings that is why Google does not put Fédération
Algérienne de Football first.

Attractiveness:
The Algerian website looks very basic but rather neat. The tones of the site are dark. The main
color is green. For new users It might seem strange, but the color green represents the color
of the attire of the football teams. Green is also a color of the Algerian flag. They provide a lot
of images with the football teams and up to date information about them. The letter type of
titles is all in capital letters which makes it more eye catching.

Content:
The subject of the site is about the Algerian national football teams. The website contains out
of articles about the teams. The objective of this website is to keep football fans updates on
the national teams. (Fédération algérienne de football, 2020)

Radhia Tebbi, Zoubeda El Ayadi, Duc-Huy Nguyen, Abdelkrim Azouakine & Mohamed Abihi –
2IBM03
2.9. Daebak
Functionality:
Daebak is user friendly. The main menu goes down when you scroll lower. It makes it easier
that you will not have to scroll back all the way up to find the main menu. They provide a drop-
down list to breakdown all the content they offer. This way you can find what you are looking
for. You can register to the website to keep updated on the subscription boxes they offer. On
the top left corner, you can find a search button which allows you to search for what they
have in their store. (Daebak, 2020)

Authority:
Type in the word daebak in google and the first thing that shows up is the daebak box. Daebak
is a Korean slang word and not common that is why I think that Google puts the subscription
box as first.
Radhia Tebbi, Zoubeda El Ayadi, Duc-Huy Nguyen, Abdelkrim Azouakine & Mohamed Abihi –
2IBM03
Attractiveness:
The website has white as a main color. It is attractive to the eyes as it makes the subscription
boxes on the slide bar stand out more. The letter type is black and basic which makes it easier
to read. White layout and black letters are perfect.

Content:
The content of the website is about the products that they sell. Deabak box is a subscription
box of Korean goods that you can subscribe to. For example, you have the K-Pop box that
contains Korean bands their merchandise and goods of collaborated work with cosmetic
brands. (Daebak, 2020)

Radhia Tebbi, Zoubeda El Ayadi, Duc-Huy Nguyen, Abdelkrim Azouakine & Mohamed Abihi –
2IBM03
2.10. Bank Chaabi
Functionality:
The website of Bank Chaabi is very customer friendly. You can open a menu in the top left
corner, where you will get the different functions separated by appropriate titles. If you scroll
to the bottom of the page, you will find their FAQ and customer service contact information.
You will also find some useful information like the nearest agency. (Bank Chaabi, 2020)

Authority:
If you look up Bank Chaabi or Bank Populaire on google you will find the Dutch version first,
because of using Dutch google. The next website in line is the official website in
English/French.

Attractiveness:
The website has dark warm colours like wine red, brown... which gives a feeling of luxury. The
logo with the horse also gives this feeling.

Content:
The content of this website is about their bank. You can find information about their bank,
their locations, their services etc. You can also log in and enjoy their different telebanking
services. (Bank Chaabi, 2020)

Radhia Tebbi, Zoubeda El Ayadi, Duc-Huy Nguyen, Abdelkrim Azouakine & Mohamed Abihi –
2IBM03
2.11. Premier league
Functionality:
The premier league website is built in a way to give as much information as possible but in a
structured way. You can see the premier league logo in the top left corner and the logo of all
the clubs that participate in the premier league. There are some titles in the top bar with the
corresponding topics. In the middle you have the premier league table and the liveblog on the
side with updates of the ongoing games. (Premier League, 2020)

Authority:
The premier league is the most popular football competition in the world. By typing premier
league on google you will find the upcoming fixtures and news articles and the first website in
line is the official website.

Attractiveness:
The lion logo and the typical for the premier league purple, white structure is a very nice
combination. Everything is very clear, and they emphasize important things like titles and
scores by putting them in purple.

Content:
The website consists of live scores stats and blogs. There is also space for movements they
support like the “NoToRacism” movement. (Premier League, 2020)

Radhia Tebbi, Zoubeda El Ayadi, Duc-Huy Nguyen, Abdelkrim Azouakine & Mohamed Abihi –
2IBM03
2.12. Lemonde
Functionality:
The website is very well structured. You will find the most relevant articles on the home
screen; you also have a tab with different topics to filter. There is also a title “services” where
you can find everything about their services. In the dark blue bar, there is something like a live
blog with the latest updates of events. (Escande, 2020)

Authority:
If you look up Lemonde on google the first thing that will pop up is the official website and
after that the social media accounts of Lemonde.

Attractiveness:
The website has a typical newsletter structure formal colours, no room for uncertainties
everything is very clear as it should be. All images are very clear, the titles are big, but not too
big. It has a perfect shape in its whole.

Content:
Lemonde is a newsletter site you can find the latest news about almost everything. You can
register to get updates about the news, and you can also buy a membership for exclusive
articles. (Escande, 2020)

Radhia Tebbi, Zoubeda El Ayadi, Duc-Huy Nguyen, Abdelkrim Azouakine & Mohamed Abihi –
2IBM03
3. CONCLUSION
We can definitely conclude that all the website that we analysed are very different from each
other. We tried finding different sites from different countries/cultures. Every website has a
different purpose and different layout. Some websites like ‘Daebak, ‘Aliexpress’ and
‘Choumicha’ used many colours that are very vibrant, while the other websites kept it very
minimalistic. People in the western world would probably find this very obnoxious, while
people in the eastern world would find this very normal.
The authority of a website is also very vital for companies. You need to make sure that people
can easily find your website with just a few keywords. It does not matter in which country your
situated in or who your target group is, having your website pop up first in search engines is
extremely important.

4. REFLECTION
Abdelkrim Azouakine: Having done this assignment, I have learned more about the concept
of websites. Comparing them from different companies, gave me a better insight of how to
adapt each approach and design to a certain business branch.

Radhia Tebbi: I loved doing this assignment because it made me see more details. It also
makes you realize the difference in different countries. The criteria we evaluated would help
us for future assignments.

Duc-Huy Nguyen: Interesting exercise. It helped me dissect parts of the sites and evaluate and
compare them and by dissecting the websites it gave me a better understanding about
websites in general.

Zoubeda El Ayadi: I really liked doing this exercise because we can look at how different
websites are from other countries/cultures. I also learned that the criteria we used to talk
about the website can help me in the future when I want to make a website.

Mohamed Abihi: Comparing the different websites made me examine the websites more in
detail. Since doing this exercise I catch myself considering the details of random webpages
that I visit.
