Engineering Chemistry (TCH-101) Assignment-2 (Topic: Fuels and Calorific Value)
Q1.In an experiment in a Bomb calorimeter, a solid fuel of 0.90g is burnt. It is observed that
increase of temperature is 3.8oC of 4000g of water. The fuel contains 1% of H. calculate
the HCV and LCV value (equivalent weight of water = 385g and latent heat of steam =
587 cal/g)
Calculate the GCV and NCV of the fuel if the fuel contains 92% of C, 5% of H and 3%
of ash.
Q3.On burning 0.72g of a solid fuel in a Bomb calorimeter, the temperature of 250g
of water is increased from 27.3oC to 29.1oC. If the water equivalent is 150g,
calculate the HCV of the fuel.
Q5.Calculate LCV of a fuel which has 8.9% hydrogen and its HCV is 6500 cal/g (given latent
heat of steam =580 cal/g).
