How to Add and Customize User Defined Title Blocks in an Isogen Style FAQ
Question:
How are User defined Title Blocks added and Customized in the Isogen Enterprise Control
Panel?
Answer:
User defined Title Blocks saved in and AutoCAD (*.dwg) format can be added to Isogen
Isometric Style and customized to include automated Material List items and Project Data.
This can be configured using the “Drawing Setup Tool” in the new Isogen Enterprise
Control Panel. Firstly, a default Isogen Style needs to be created. This can be done by
opening “I-Configure” and clicking on the “New Isometric Directory” command as seen
below.
Next click on the “Make New Folder” button to create a new Isometric directory as seen
below.
Once a project directory has been created, click on the “New Project” command as seen
below.
In the “New Project” dialogue, define a “New Project Name” and then select the Isometric
Style Type you would like to use. The type of Isometric Style selected will determine what
start configurations are set in the default Isometric Style. By selecting an Isometric Style
Type that is closest to the User requirements, will save time as only a few configurations
will need to be changed for this Style to meet the User’s requirement.
Once a default Isogen Style has been created, open the User Defined Title Block in
AutoCAD. Create all Bill of Material Headings, Rows and Columns using AutoCAD Lines and
Text, leaving space for the component data to automatically be populated into the Bill of
Materials by Isogen.
Also create the required Headings leaving space for Project Data that will automatically be
populated by Isogen as seen below.
Once complete use the “Save As” command to save the Title Block in the Isometric Style
Project folder. The Title Block (*.dwg) file must be saved as an “AutoCAD 2007 Drawing
(*.dwg)” file type as seen below.
Next, in I-Configure, select the newly created Isometric Style and click on the “Edit”
command to open the Isogen Enterprise Control Panel.
Browse to and select the relevant Title Block and click “Open” as seen below.
The User Defined Title Block will load into the “Drawing Setup Tool”. The User can now
configure the ‘Drawing Size”, the “Backing Sheet Units”, what list types to include when
using this Isogen Style and the “Number of Sections” that will build up the Material List
The “Drawing Areas” tab can now be used to resize the area in which the Isometric
Drawing will be placed. This will ensure that the Drawing does not collide with the Bill of
Materials and Header or Overlap the border edges. Coordinates can be used to determine
the size of the drawing area. Alternatively the User can drag the grips of the green drawing
area frame to resize the drawing area as seen below.
The “Text Font”, “Text Height” and “Start Location” of the “Material List” can also be
defined in this tab. Coordinates can be used to determine the Material List “Start Location”.
Alternatively the User can drag the purple Material List Crosshairs into position as seen
below.
These configurations can also be modified in the “Material List” tab. The “Vertical Spacing”
value will modify the vertical text spacing between Material List items. It is advised to
ensure that the vertical spacing value is greater than the “Text Height” value. The “List
Grow Direction” and “Maximum Entries” can also be defined from this tab. Attribute
columns can be added to the Material List by clicking on the “Add Attribute” command as
seen below.
Additional Attribute Columns can be added and removed by repeating this method. The
attribute column type can be modified by changing the “Name” value as seen below. This
will define what attribute data extracted from the model, will be placed in this column. This
attribute type can be correctly positioned by dragging the Green Box into place.
The “Maximum Characters” value can also be configured to define how many characters
are populated to this column before a new text row is started.
Using the above steps all Material List Attributes can be modified and positioned into the
User Defined Title Block as seen below.
The “Attributes” tab can be used to position attributes that are required in the Title Block
Header. These attributes will be extracted from the CADWorx Model and placed at selected
positions as well as with selected font formatting.
Unwanted Attribute can be removed by selecting the Attribute Row and clicking on the
“Remove Attribute” tab as seen below.
By changing the “Attribute” the User can decide what attributes are placed in the Title
Block Header. For example, the attribute that is associated with the “Line Number” is called
the “Pipeline Reference” as seen below.
Coordinates can be used to determine the Attribute “Insertion Location”. Alternatively the
User can drag the Attribute Box into position. The Text Height can also be defined for this
individual attribute as seen below.
To add additional attribute, change the Attribute type in the last row of the Attributes list.
This will automatically add an additional Attribute Row as seen below.
Repeating the above method, the entire Title Block Header can be populated with
automatic Attributes. User Attributes can also be used to populate the Title Block Header
with custom information.
Most of these attributes are extracted from the Model “Project Data”. In CADWorx this
information can be inserted typing “ISOGENSETTINGS” into the command line as seen
below.
Next, click on the “Project Data” command as seen below.
The “Project Data” dialogue can now be populated with Model Data that will be extracted
to the Title Block Header in the positions defined in “Attributes” tab in the “Drawing Setup
Tool”.
Now the User Defined Title Block added to the Isogen Style and Material List and Attribute
Preferences have been configured click on the “OK” command as seen below.
To save changes, click on the “Save” command in the Isogen Enterprise Control Panel as
seen below.
Click on the “Exit” command to go back to the main Isogen I-Configure interface. As I-
Configure was originally designed for SmartPlant the Isogen Style will now need to be
exported to a format that can be read by CADWorx Plant Professional. This can be done by
simply clicking on the “Export Style” command as seen below.
All configurations set in the above steps will apply to any Isometric generated with this
Isogen Style.
