Statement of Intent
I’ve known the career I want to pursue since freshman year and my high school career
has further solidified those goals. Most of the skills I’ll need for this career weren’t learned in a
classroom, but of course, school is essential for success in any life path. My chosen life path is
one of art and expression and true passion. After high school, I intend to major in musical theatre
in one of the top twenty programs in the country earning a Bachelor of Fine Art degree and
I was introduced to the art of musical theatre at five years old. Though I didn’t really
know what I was doing then, I’ve been told I had some natural talent for singing. Once I really
started taking theatre seriously around middle school, I began to work to better my talent and
grow as a performer. It was also around this time that I started to work with a private vocal
teacher and there was quickly a notable difference in how I sounded. Since then, I’ve realized my
dreams and worked harder than ever to get where I am today. Of course, along with work outside
of shows, I’ve been involved in youth and professional musicals as well. I’ve learned my most
valuable lessons in these professional productions, of which I usually performed in about four
every year.
performed in the summer before freshman year. This was a production of Annie in which I
played the title role of Annie. I was nominated for an Arty award for lead actress for my

performance alongside women much older than me. This was the first time I played a lead role in
a professional musical and it was truly a life changing experience. I learned professionalism and,
with doing six or more shows each week for six weeks, I had to really learn how to take care of
myself and my voice because I had a whole cast of people counting on me. That summer
High school has been filled with an unimaginable amount of growth and new experiences
but one definitely stands out from the past four years. In my junior year, I was given the
incredible opportunity to play Elsa in a youth production of Frozen. This show and this role not
only taught me so much about characterization and stage presence, but it also taught me about
myself and who I was. I saw so much of myself in the character it strangely made the character
harder to analyze but, once I did the work, it was the most fun I’ve ever had on stage. As I’m
writing this, the show was nearly a year ago and looking back on the memories has brought me
so much heartache. Living without my self expressive outlet and my art form this year has been
one of the hardest things I’ve been forced to go through, but this is only intermission and,
These experiences and memories and the growth of my talent have made me realize that
it is truly possible for me to be excellent and to succeed at a career that I love. In my college
career, I intend to become the absolute best version of myself as a performer. I intend to be
excellent and make more memories and go on more short journeys of self discovery. Musical
theatre has been present at every stage of my life. It has made me into the person I am and I can’t
picture a version of my future without it. Musical Theatre is what I’m passionate about and it is
what I want and it is what I will unapologetically chase after until I have it in my grasp.
