The South Denmark Philharmonic is holding auditions for bass trombone on January 18, 2021 at the Alsion Concert Hall in Sønderborg, Denmark. Applicants will perform three rounds of orchestral excerpts, with rounds two and three including additional excerpts played with section and tuba respectively. The successful candidate will be offered employment starting March 1 or by arrangement, paid according to the Danish regional orchestra agreement. Application forms must be submitted by January 4.

The audition will take place on Monday, January 18 th, 2021, starting at 10 a.m.
Employment from 1st March, or by arrangement with the winning candidates .

AUDITION REPERTOIRE

The orchestra will provide a pianist during the audition January 18 th, 2021

The audition repertoire:

ROUND 1
 Bozza: New Orleans (5 bars after rehearsal mark 4 to the end) solo with piano
 Excerpts:
o Haydn: Creation (first 37 bars of No. 26 Chor und Terzett)
o Wagner: Die Walküre (4th Trombone part from complete opera, Act 3, Scene 1, pickup to 5 bars after
rehearsal mark 10 to downbeat of rehearsal mark 12)

ROUND 2
The applicant is free to choose the order of excerpts:

 Franck: Symphony in D (Mvt. 3, first 18 bars of rehearsal mark N)


 Nielsen: Flute Concerto (Mvt. 1, bar 80 through 96)
 Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade (Mvt. 2, 13 bars after rehearsal mark E to downbeat of rehearsal mark F) +
(17 bars after rehearsal mark I to downbeat of rehearsal mark L)
 Rossini: William Tell Overture [German Edition] (bar 92 through 131)
 Schumann: Symphony no. 3 (first 18 bars of Mvt. IV Feierlich)
 Wagner: Das Rheingold (4th Trombone part from complete opera, Scene 4, final 15 bars)

ROUND 3
With section:

 Brahms: Symphony no. 4 (Mvt. 4, rehearsal mark E to 9 bars before rehearsal mark F)
 Mozart: Requiem (Kyrie)
 Nielsen: Symphony no. 3 (Mvt. 1, 3 bars before rehearsal mark 26 to end of the movement) + (Mvt. 2, 4 bars
before rehearsal mark 11 to 2 bars after rehearsal mark 12)
 Tchaikovsky: Symphony no. 4 (Mvt. 4, 16 bars before rehearsal mark C to rehearsal mark E) + (15 bars after
rehearsal mark F to 7 bars after Andante)

With Tuba

 Mahler: Symphony no. 5 (Mvt. 2 Stürmisch Bewegt, 9 bars after rehearsal mark 24 to rehearsal mark 25) +
(Mvt. 3 Scherzo, pickup to rehearsal mark 25 to rehearsal mark 26).
 Nielsen: Symphony no. 5 (Mvt. 2, pickup to 3 bars after rehearsal mark 57 to downbeat of rehearsal mark 59)

SALARY
The salary package is paid according to the agreement between the Danish Regional Orchestras and the Danish
Musicians’ Union (DMF), is commensurate with professional orchestral experience.

Applicants with non-EU citizenship are responsible for obtaining valid residence and work permits by the time of
employment in Denmark.

ABOUT THE ORCHESTRA


Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester (SSO) / South Denmark Philharmonic is a symphony orchestra of 65 members based in
Sønderborg, Denmark. It serves as the State orchestra for Denmark’s South Jutland region and Southern Schleswig in
Germany. The orchestra plays around 155 concerts per year – Classical symphonic music, chamber music, school
concerts and opera.
