1. The cost of a washing machine is $12,500 and the selling price is $12,000. -$500
(a) Was there a profit or a loss? Answer= Loss
(b) What was the profit/loss? Answer= $500.00 12500/500 = 25
(c) What is the profit/loss percentage? Answer= 4% 500= 4%

2. The cost of a pen is $18 and the selling price is $24.


(a) Was there a profit or a loss? Answer= Profit $24- 18=.$6

(b) What was the profit/loss? Answer= $6.00


(c) What is the profit/loss percentage Answer= 33% 18/6 = 1/3= 33%

3. Convert the following to decimals, fractions or percentages as indicated.


25/100 divided by 25 = 1/4
(a) 25% to a fraction. = 1/4
(b) ⅜ to a decimal. = 37.5 8/100= 12.5. 12.5 x 3= 37.5

(c) 0.6 to a percentage. = 60% 0.6 =

(d) 0.45 to a fraction. = 9/20 0.45= 45/100 divided by 5 = 9/20

4. An item marked at $495 is sold at a 30% discount. What is the discount


price? = $346.5 $495x 10= 49.5 x 3 $495-$148.5
=148.5 = 346.5

5. Harry sells his calculator for a profit of 20%. If he bought it for $290, for
how much did he sell it? =$348 $290/5= 58
$290+58= $348
