ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Prepare the helicopter for maintenance.
2. Remove the tail rotor gearbox fairing (500G) (DMC-429-A-53-00-00-54A-520A-A).
3. Remove the tail rotor gearbox support access cover (500F) (DMC-429-A-53-00-00-
30A-520A-A).
4. Disconnect the fixed directional control tube assembly (1, Figure 1) from the
bellcrank assembly (2) (DMC-429-A-67-20-00-05A-520A-A).
5. Disconnect the input rod assembly (3) from the lever assembly (4) (DMC-429-A-67-
20-00-10A-520A-A).

6. On the bellcrank assembly (2), clean the top and lower surfaces of the spherical
bearing (5) with aliphatic naphtha (C-305).
-NOTE-
A close up high quality photo taken with a phone camera or a
borescope, may help with the inspection of the bearing.
7. With a bright light, inspect the lower surface of the spherical bearing (1, Figure 2).
Make sure that the bearing has not moved by ensuring that the witness marks are
present and intact. Inspect the staked lip for uniformity along the chamfer of the
bellcrank assembly (2). If the spherical bearing (1) is improperly staked, proceed to
step 10 before next flight. If the lower surface of the bearing is staked properly,
continue with step 8.
8. Push the input rod assembly (3, Figure 1) into the tail rotor gearbox support (6) so
that the spherical bearing (5) in the bellcrank assembly (2) can be seen through the
access hole at the aft end of the tail rotor gearbox support, as shown in Figure 3 of
this bulletin.
9. With a bright light, inspect the upper surface of the spherical bearing (1, Figure 4).
Make sure that the bearing has not moved by ensuring that the witness marks are
present and intact. Inspect the staked lip for uniformity along the chamfer of the
bellcrank assembly (2). If the spherical bearing (5) is improperly staked, proceed to
step 10 before next flight. If there are no discrepancies, proceed to step 17.
10. Remove the bellcrank assembly (2, Figure 2) from the tail rotor gearbox support (6)
(DMC-429-A-67-20-00-05A-520A-A).
-NOTE-
There is a bonded washer on the upper surface of the
bellcrank assembly arm where the spherical bearing is
located. It may be necessary to remove this washer in order
to properly stake a new spherical bearing.
11. If required, remove the washer (7) and the cured adhesive.
12. Remove the unserviceable spherical bearing (5) from the bellcrank assembly (2)
(BHT-ALL-SPM, Chapter 9).
13. Inspect the bore in the bellcrank assembly (2) for excessive wear. The maximum
allowable bore diameter is 0.6253” (15.88 mm). If the bore diameter is beyond
acceptable limits go to step 14. If within acceptable limits go to step 15.
14. If the wear is beyond the maximum allowable limit, do the following:

Letter GEN-18-141 and attach it to the e-mail.
15. If the bore in the bellcrank assembly (2) is within acceptable limits, install a new
spherical bearing (5) (BHT-ALL-SPM, Chapter 9).
16. If the washer was removed during step 11, bond a new washer (7) with adhesive (C-
562) (BHT-ALL-SPM, Chapter 7).
17. Re-install the bellcrank assembly (2) in the tail rotor gearbox support (6) (DMC-429-
A-67-20-00-05A-720A-A).
18. Connect the input rod assembly (3) to the lever assembly (4) (DMC-429-A-67-20-00-
10A-720A-A).
19. Connect the fixed directional control tube assembly (1) to the bellcrank assembly (2)
(DMC-429-A-67-20-00-05A-720A-A).
20. Install the tail rotor gearbox support access cover (500F) (DMC-429-A-53-00-00-
28A-720A-A).
21. Install the tail rotor gearbox fairing (500G) (DMC-429-A-53-00-00-52A-720A-A).
