FEAP 5a. Designs purposeful professional goals to strengthen the effectiveness of instruction
based on students’ needs;
Level 1: It is important to evaluate student needs and see what types of instruction will work best
for them. This can be modifications to lessons or the design of the lesson itself. During the line
up lesson, I evaluated some of the students needs and incorporated that into the lesson. I gave
specific students assigned roles to play such as line leader and door holder. These were strategic
based on the student needs.
Level 3: An educator must be able to reflect on previous goals and lessons in order to grow and
strengthen their effectiveness of instruction based on student needs. This can be either after a unit
or simply after the first lesson is taught to a homeroom class. I try to reflect on every lesson and
set goals for future lessons. I evaluate what went well and what needs to be improved in my
lessons. I seek out constructive criticism from peers, teachers and supervisors. This can be seen
by my video reflection forms that I complete after each Lesson performed.

5b. Examines and uses data-informed research to improve instruction and achievement;
Professional growth is important for a teacher that wants to improve and better themselves for
future instruction and lessons. There are several ways to use data-informed research to improve
your instruction. I have taken many classes throughout my time at USF and have used many of
my teachings in those classes towards my lessons. I have incorporated concepts from my
Classroom Management class, my ED Psych class, my math and science class, and my social
studies class. This information has offered tips and strategies that I have been able to utilize into
various lessons to strengthen the effectiveness. Examples of ideas that have been utilized are
the creation of an attention getter and the creation of expectations from classroom management
as well as strategies to use when teaching math concepts like fractions and division.
5c. Uses a variety of data, independently, and in collaboration with colleagues, to evaluate
learning outcomes, adjust planning and continuously improve the effectiveness of the lessons;
This FEAP is one of the most important for instruction and is especially helpful when dealing
with two different classes throughout the day. During my final internship, I demonstrated this
with a science lesson. During my first class, I did an aqua foil test with the students. During this
time, I had them record their results on their sheets. However, after discussing with my CT and
thinking about the second class, I decided to modify the lesson. I added an anchor chart with
each student results for a more visual aspect. This helped the students see the full scope of the
class. The data I collected was that students began to improve their designs based on the results
that they saw on the anchor chart.
5D: Collaborates with the home, school, and larger communities to foster communication and to
support student learning and continuous improvement.
There have been a few times when I have collaborated with the with the home life of my students to
foster communication and support student learning as well as continuous improvement. I have
volunteered with a few parent and teacher conferences as well as an award ceremony for the school
that welcomed the friends and parents of my students. The evidence that I have selected for this FEAP
takes place during the morning routines in the classroom. Each morning I have the students open and
bring forward their agendas. This is where I will either leave notes or leave important announcements
for the parents. I will often also respond to parent questions that are written in these agendas.
Additionally, I will post test scores for both math and science to inform the parents how their students
are doing prior to any parent conferences.
There was also a time when I collaborated with the school and larger community. There was a planning
session between various grade level teachers. We were trying to design a consistent newsletter to send
to the parents that would be similar between all grades. We all gave suggestions and layout designs. I
chose this because I worked with the school to reach the community in a uniform and consistent way so
that all parents would see the same announcements. My suggestions included the learning objectives as
well as some of the design layout of the boxes on the top. Below is the final product that was decided as
well as notes and ideas that we jotted down by me to determine the best options.
5E *Engage in targeted professional growth opportunities and reflective practices).
Level 2: The only way to grow as a student and become an effective educator is to accept
constructive criticism and reflect yourself. However, you must also know how to reflect on the
criticism given and use that information to better your instruction. I have done a few lessons
now and have received feedback for all of them. The feedback is both positive as well as areas
of growth. I have used the feedback to improve each lesson.
Midterm Conference form
During my midterm conference, we discussed both areas of achievement as well as areas of
growth. This information was extremely helpful in planning the following lessons that I had
scheduled. I was able to get feedback from experienced teachers that I could use for future
reference. midterm_conference.jpg
Level 4: Similar to my level 2 experience with this FEAP. I have continued to take different suggestions
and ideas to use in my future lessons. These suggestions were used to better my instruction and help me
excel into a better teacher. One instance that this occurred in was during a math lesson. For my math
routine I had a series of equations that we were using (Double minus 1) to solve. I posted the equations
and was looking to see if students could see the similarities and differences. However, I used too much
modeling and did not challenge them. My CT suggested that I have them turn and talk. She stated that
the struggle is good and helps them think independently. When I did this practice for my second class, I
saw much better responses and growth.
5F Implements knowledge and skills learned in professional development in the teaching and
learning process.
Throughout my time in the field I have had many instances when I learned and gained
knowledge and skills related to professional development. These were important because I was
able to bring them to the classroom and become a more effective teacher. One such time
during my level 4 internship was when I utilized the 5 E model in a science lesson. I developed
an understanding of the 5 E model during my Elementary Science class at USF. I was given much
information in relation to how to design a five E model lesson and what tips and ideas to use.
One of the most relevant parts to the lesson was engaging the students. I was able to use ideas
from this class to make my students engaged and offer them opportunities to explore. One such
time was during a properties of matter lesson where I had the students become hands on and
go on a texture hunt. This was not only engaging but let the students explore and explain on
their own.
