New Hydro-Clean washing unit uses less water to remove contamination from aggregate
The new Hydro-Clean washing unit from W.S. Tyler cleans
deleterious material from aggregate, industrial minerals
and metals while reducing water consumption by up to 75
percent over traditional log washers, the company says.
Taking a maximum feed material size of up to 6 in. into
its vertical drum, the Hydro-Clean employs high-pressure
nozzles, rotating at 90 rpm, to spray up to 90 percent
recycled water on the material with pressures up to 2,900
psi (200 bars). The washing unit removes silt and clay
particles as small as 63 microns from mineral mixtures
and, with its short retention times, can process up to 400
tph, depending on model size and application.
The Hydro-Clean is ideal for use in clay-heavy material
deposits. The dirty material is fed via hopper to a verti-

sizes: 1 ½-in., 2-in., 3-in. and 4-in. to create a subgrade mate-
rial to stabilize underfoot conditions for paving. And ¼-in.,
½-in. and ¾-in. sizes are used for creating a mix, whether as-
phalt, concrete or a more cohesive base material.
Optimizing production
The 1200-25CC portable crushers are identical to commercially
available models with only a few minor exceptions. The 450-
hp diesel engine is outfitted to run on JP-8 (a jet fuel used in a
wide variety of military engines). Also, a series of lift points and
eyeholes have been fabricated to the unit for hauling by air and
sea, and a military-green coat of paint has been added (as op-
posed to the standard Eagle Crusher orange). The plant weighs
125,000 lbs. and features travel dimensions of 62 ft. 8 in. long,
13 ft. 5 in. high and 11 ft. 7 in. wide. This allows the Seabees to
haul the entire plant behind one truck with a second truck for
the conveyor systems.
The older system, which included both a jaw and cone
crusher, took considerably more effort to move. Each crusher
required its own truck, a truck for the conveyors, and its gen-
erator was not integrated into the unit (as on the Eagle Crusher
plant), so that required another truck/trailer.
“One of the primary reasons we went with the impact
crusher was because it’s a closed circuit system,” Zimmerman
