sizes: 1 ½-in., 2-in., 3-in. and 4-in. to create a subgrade mate-
rial to stabilize underfoot conditions for paving. And ¼-in.,
½-in. and ¾-in. sizes are used for creating a mix, whether as-
phalt, concrete or a more cohesive base material.

Optimizing production
The 1200-25CC portable crushers are identical to commercially
available models with only a few minor exceptions. The 450-
hp diesel engine is outfitted to run on JP-8 (a jet fuel used in a
wide variety of military engines). Also, a series of lift points and
eyeholes have been fabricated to the unit for hauling by air and
sea, and a military-green coat of paint has been added (as op-
posed to the standard Eagle Crusher orange). The plant weighs
125,000 lbs. and features travel dimensions of 62 ft. 8 in. long,
13 ft. 5 in. high and 11 ft. 7 in. wide. This allows the Seabees to
haul the entire plant behind one truck with a second truck for
the conveyor systems.
The older system, which included both a jaw and cone
crusher, took considerably more effort to move. Each crusher
required its own truck, a truck for the conveyors, and its gen-
erator was not integrated into the unit (as on the Eagle Crusher
plant), so that required another truck/trailer.
“One of the primary reasons we went with the impact
crusher was because it’s a closed circuit system,” Zimmerman

Designed for improved reliability

Metso’s Superior 60-110E primary gyratory crusher pro-
vides a redesigned Spider, a one-piece bottomshell and a
new rim liner retention system. These improvements and
redesigned components are also interchangeable with
existing 60-100 MK-ll crushers. The Superior 60-110E is
FEA-analyzed to reduce stresses, increase reliability and
enhance performance. Additional benefits include a 20
percent reduction in weight but with no reduction in capac-
ity, an increase from 514 rpm to 600 rpm, the option of
being retrofitable (with nominal modifications) and reduced
installation and transportation costs. Four key design ele-
ments drive the unit: Spider assembly, bottomshell design,
topshell design and rim liner retention. An additional fea-
ture of the unit includes an upgraded mainshaft assembly
with a bearing ring that releases the pressure of the head-
nut for mantle change-out. This eliminates the potential
for damage to the headnut or mantle and affords simple
replacement of one less expensive component.

BREAKING SOLUTION has a two-deck, fully independent pre-screen, which can
be fitted with punch sheet, grizzly and wire mesh. This
allows for prescreening before crushing, or removal of
unwanted scalps. Both the Mobicat and Mobirex range of
crushers offer this fully independent double-deck screen

elongated grizzly or a punched sheet; this separates the
feed material allowing the oversize product to feed into
the crusher and the under size product to pass to the sec-

Jaws handle troublesome materials, reduce downtime

Columbia Steel can help crusher operators
determine if they need special jaw profiles
for recycling asphalt and concrete. The com-
pany offers guidelines by first asking, “Do
slabs fall through your jaw crusher without
being crushed? Or do slabs fail to break and
then create blockage?” If so, the company
says, it’s time to consider jaws designed
to handle these troublesome materials
and reduce downtime. Slab breaker jaws
are based on traditional and high-tooth jaw
designs but with additional raised slab break-
ers in pitch with conventionally located teeth.
The number of slab breakers is proportional
to the width of the crusher’s size and model,
allowing the operator to set the discharge for
a reasonable opening and still break slabs
that otherwise would flow through the crush-
er. The company can supply slab-busting
wear parts for more than 70 different crusher
makes and models.

Cone crushers designed for maximum efficiency
KPI-JCI says its Kodiak Plus Series of cone
crushers, engineered to reduce downtime
and maintenance, helps operators get the
job done easier and faster than before.
Reducing the need to re-circulate loads through a
series of innovations is the key to the Kodiak Plus Series,
the company says. Precision-designed roller bearings gener-
ate higher efficiencies and reduce operating temperatures
while allowing a high tolerance to cli-
mate and temperature fluctuations. A
tramp iron relief system with pressure
relief valves eliminates maintenance
costs associated with accumulators.
Field replaceable segmented brass
thread inserts resist galling and welding
to decrease downtime for maintenance. 7 < ( , ,1726$/($%/(

Eagle Crusher Co. offers the 3242
jaw plant, which it says is ideal for
primary crushing applications that
involve extremely hard or abrasive
feed materials. The precise jaw

Flowmeters assure delivery of lubrication oil to bearings

Universal Flow Monitors Inc. announces L Series viscosity-insensitive flowmeters that
assure delivery of circulating lubrication oil to machinery bearings in high-vibration
applications. These piston-style flowmeters maintain +/- 5 percent accuracy for lubrica-
tion oils with a viscosity range between 40 and 200 centipoise. Although operating in
the 40-200 centipoise viscosity range is standard, a meter can be optimized for spe-
cific viscosities within that range. The viscosity-insensitive L Series meters can monitor
lube oil flow rates from 2 to 20 gallons per minute. The meters monitor rate of oil flow,
provide flow rate indication to assist in problem diagnosis and respond immediately if
flow goes too low. L Series meters are available with a field-adjustable, high-vibration
single pole double throw micro switch to trigger equipment shutdown in high-vibration
applications and protect against bearing damage.

PHOTOS FROM EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURERS’ REBUILD PROGRAMS

These before-and-after photos demonstrate

the rebuild of a Telsmith crusher. The company’s certified
remanufactured crushers are thoroughly refurbished at
the factory, where every part is removed from the machine
and thoroughly inspected. The main frame is sand blasted
and inspected for wear or damage, and key internal parts,
including roller bearings, bronze bushings, seals and wear
liners, are replaced with new parts.
