Exercise No: 1 Title: Introduction To Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) 1. Aim: 2. Requirements: 3. Theory
4. Advantages:
1. We can make accurate and precise drawings like plan, section and
elevation of a building.
2. Shorter preparation time for drawing.
3. Reduced man power requirement.
4. Increases the productivity of the designer.
5. Customer modifications in drawing are easier.
6. Improves the quality of the design
7. Reduced engineering personal requirement.
8. Improved accuracy of drawing.
9. Colours can be used to customize the product.
10. Hatching of all sections with different filling patterns.
11. Drawings prepared in the software can be stored safely.
12. Printing can be done to any scale.
5. Limitations of Auto CAD:
1. 32 – bit word computer is necessary because of large amount of computer
memory and time.
2. The size of the software package is large.
3. Skill and judgment are required to prepare the drawing.
4. Huge investment.
6. CAD Software’s:
The software is an interpreter or translator which allows the user to
perform specific type of application or job related to CAD. The following
software’s are available for drafting.
1. AUTOCAD
2. QCAD
3. Creo Elements
4. Google Sketch Up
5. Free CAD
6. Draft Sight
7. BRL – CAD
8. gCAD3D
9. Archimedes
DWG (DraWinG) is a binary file format used for storing two and three
dimensional design data and metadata. It is the native format for several CAD
packages including Draft Sight, AutoCAD, etc.
7. Result: Studying of Auto CAD, its applications and its advantages are
done.
