Long ago, there was a tortoise that lived by the lake. The tortoise was good friends
with a pair of cranes. It would often chat for hours with the cranes.
Then, there was a terrible drought. The lake began to dry up so the tortoise and
the cranes wanted to move to another lake. Since it was far away, the tortoise
suggested that the cranes carry it on a stick. It would hang from the stick with its
mouth. The cranes agreed but warned the tortoise that it must not open its mouth
during the journey.
The cranes then carried a stick in their beaks. Then, they flew into air with the
tortoise hanging from the stick. During the journey to the lake, a man saw the cranes
and the tortoise.
`Wow! Those clever birds know to carry a tortoise,’ said the man.
Hearing that, the tortoise shouted, `It was my idea!’
The cranes were shocked as they watched the tortoise fall to the ground.
