Meaning of Self Confidence
• Self Confidence is an attribute of knowing the self, has been
defined as a personal competence characterized with “a strong
sense of one’s self worth and capabilities.”
Factors affecting self confidence:-
• Childhood:- Emotional nourishment deeply influences children.
This is when self-confidence begins. Children despite their
imperfections and mistakes receive encouragement, love and
acceptance from adults learn to accept themselves. Parents,
however, should not protect their children from failure. These
setbacks can build confidence, vice versa may affect the self
confidence.
• Teen Years:- The teenage years can be full of angst, self-doubt,
envy and embarrassment. A Self confident teen is aware of his/her
intelligence, learns from mistakes, dwells on away from unethical
individuals or situations. Strong family
Factors affecting self confidence:-
• Adulthood:- Adults lacking self confidence often focus too much on
unrealistic expectations or standards of others, Particularly parents,
friends and society. Self-defeating thoughts and assumptions can
destroy the potential for poise and confidence.
• Behaviors:- A lack of self confidence can result in negativity and self
destructive behaviors, including anxiety, fear, delinquency and drug
or alcohol abuse.
• Misconceptions:- Self-Confidence is not an all-encompassing
approach. A person may have self-assurance in every aspect of life
while still being trusting of his or her abilities and acceptance.
Self-confidence does not equate to beliefs or expectations of
perfection.
• Perceptions:- An individual may bring perceptions of
self-confidence to others. By making a positive impression on
others, an individual can indirectly bring out the best in his or her
own self.
Importance of self confidence:-
Self Confident people can meet work deadlines:- It has ability to
make employees perform more effectively at their jobs. Confident
employees are able to take on effectively at their jobs and commit
themselves to meet the deadlines given as task to them.
Self confident people have a positive outlook:- A self confident
person is often organized and able to stick to a schedule. Being
organized helps a person stay on top of things in every area of their
life.
Able to be Healthier:- Self –Confident people are better prepared to
deal with stressful situations with a level head. They are confident
that they can make it through any situation and solve any problem.
Self-confident people are likely to live a healthier life.
Spend more quality time:- A good day spent at work often dictates
how a person will be at home after work. A sense of
accomplishment on the job helps person be more agreeable with
family, and more upbeat. They will want to spend more time with
family, which is beneficial for everyone.
Building Techniques for Developing Self-COnfidence
Emphasis Strengths:- Give yourself credit for everything you try. By
focusing on what you can do, you applaud yourself for efforts rather
than emphasizing end products. Starting from a abase of what you
should do helps you to live within the bounds of your inevitable
limitations.
Take Risks:- Approach new experiences as opportunities to learn
rather than occasions, to win or lose. Doing so opens you up to new
possibilities and can increase your sense of self-acceptance. Not
doing so turns every possibility into an opportunity for failure, and
inhibits personal growth.
Talk to yourself:- Use self –talk as an opportunity to counter
harmful assumptions. Then, tell yourself to stop and substitute
more reasonable assumptions.
Self Evaluate:- Learn to evaluate yourself independently. Doing so
allows you to avoid the constant sense of turmoil that comes from
relying exclusively on the opinions of others.
Meaning of Willpower
Willpower is one’s ability to control the harmful
impulses. A combined feeling of happiness and
optimism helps to develop will power.
Willpower is the main virtue that aids in
developing inner power and control the
unnecessary and useless habits.
Importance of Willpower
Boosts Brain:- Willpower boosts your brain; with the development of will
power you develop the strength of mind to achieve something. Even if it is
a challenging task, you get the inner boost to be the gainer only if you have
will power.
Helps to stay away from negativity:- The virtue helps you to stay away
from negativity and mental ailments like depression, forgetfulness and
other issues. It helps you to stay calm, composed and well balanced.
Develops Self Control:- Willpower helps you to develop self control and
ability of systematic planning. It will help to enhance your inner strength,
self confidence or self-esteem.
Helps to develop focus on goal:- With the developed willpower you will
focus more on your goal or aim without caring of it whether it is small or
big; it should be liable to achieve, if it is a part of your goal than make turn
for that task.
Gives the power to handle difficulties:- Major benefits of improving
willpower that it will be forced you to waive laziness, deceive and defer in
work and give the power to handle the difficulties.

• Self Analysis or self-assessment is a process
by which one learns more about oneself –
what he likes, what he does not like, and how
he tends to react to certain situations.

• SWOT Analysis is basically raising the level of
self-understanding and self-appreciation. It
understands one’s strengths and weaknesses
when evaluating how a situation is to be dealt

– A tool to help a person deal with problems and
issues that affect an individual.

– Not a plan of action, but it is analysis instrument.

• Johari Window It is propounded by Joseph
Luft and Harry Ingham, which has proved to
be the most comprehensive model which
elaborates human interaction. According to
this, an individual must relate his/her behavior
to others in order to comprehend his own
behavior.

• Open Self – This motives, feelings and behavior
about which an individual is aware and is ready to
share with other individuals are represented by open
self. These three features are quite evident when an
individual is open, straight forward and sharing.
• Blind Self – This motives, feelings and behavior
related information is known to others but the
individual is not aware of them. He/she might
frustrate or disturb others unknowingly. The other
individuals can inform this to the individual but are
afraid to hurt his/her feelings.
Quadrants of Johari Window
• Hidden Self– Individuals often do not share
numerous feelings with others from the initial stages
of their age. This quadrant includes those motives,
feelings and behaviors which are hidden from others
but the individual himself/herself is aware of them.
• Unknown Self – The state where neither others nor
the individuals are aware of the information is
represented by this quadrant. Till the time these
behaviors, motives, feelings are not allowed to come
up, individuals and others are not aware of them and
only witness them through deep fears and dreams.
Benefits of Johari Window
• Through Johari Window, consideration of various viewpoints
is possible while placing the outcomes of self-need
assessment in order.
• While prioritizing the needs and realizing suitable
intervention, the outcomes of johari window assist in
interacting with others.
• It can also be used to capitalize on the results of needs
assessment and be aware of viewpoints of distinct groups
regarding the action plan for the needs recognized.
• Through Johari Window, an individual can evolve personally
as well as professionally as he/she receives feedback based
on the strengths and weaknesses from within as well as
superiors, co-workers, and customers.
• In addition to individuals , the Johari Window is also
applicable to teams and groups for addressing their collective
features and skills.
Meaning of Creativity (Out Of Box)
• Creativity is tendency to generate or
recognize ideas, alternatives, or possibilities
that may be useful in solving problems,
communicating with others and entertaining
ourselves and others
• Creativity is the act of turning new and
imaginative ideas into reality. Creativity
involves two processes – thinking and than
producing
Features of Creativity
• Imaginative:- things which are not known earlier or which people are
unaware of, are exposed during creative thinking. Hence, creative
thinking means the first imagination.
• Purposeful:- There is a purpose behind every creative imagination. Every
creativity should serve some purpose and be useful.
• Of Value:- This feature states that the end result or outcome of creativity
must have some value. In order to make creative thinking worth
evaluation., the evaluation process needs to identify the purpose of
innovation and its significance.
• Ability:- The capability to envision or originate something new is called
creativity. It does not mean that something is developed out of the blue,
but numbers of old ideas are combined or restructured to create a new
and improved idea.
• Attitude:- Creativity is about having an attitude towards idea, object or
habit. Being capable of adapting to the changes and novelty, willingness
to experiment with new ideas and notions, having a flexible viewpoint,
being able to enjoy the goodness and simultaneously looking for
meaning to make it better, needs an attitude.
Features of Creativity
• Original:- Originality emphasizes on the individuality which is a
significant feature of creativity. Individuality of a creative mind is
very similar to the process of a plant emerging out of a seed.
• Process:- It is continuous process where the individual constantly
puts in efforts to advance the ideas and results with minor changes
and adaptations to work.
Important or Significance of Creativity
• Ability to discover new solutions:- Creativity is one concept that
has remained unexplored in depth. It has the capability to look up
for better solutions to issues and inventing new things. Hence,
creativity is appreciated as entrepreneurs are always ready to solve
problems.
• Increases Efficiency:- Creativity also plays a crucial role in the
innovative and creative process. Ideas that end up improving the
output and the effectiveness of system needs creativity.
• Enhances Knowledge:- Creativity provides the benefit of in-depth
knowledge and skills to the people and also widens the scope of
knowledge. It helps people to utilize their prior skills in creating
better ideas, techniques and improved ways of implementing
them.

new needs an extensive research to find out the opportunities in
different areas.

• Idea Germination:- Germination is the process of nurturing an idea along

• Preparation:- Once the idea has been germinated, the next step is to
give it a concrete and practical form. This is when the intellect takes over
to find answers as to how the ideas could be turned into a reality.
• Incubation:- Generally creative ideas are born through insights or in a
sudden spark of brilliance. Before the ideas is acted upon it is often
allowed to incubate properly, the time given helps the idea to grow and
nurture.
• Illumination:- This is the time when the idea is converted into its real
form, as imagined by the inventor. The idea in its nascent form remains
within mind of the individual for a long time, without being realized or
implemented.
• Verification:- The illuminated idea is still incomplete until it undergoes
the verification stage where the idea is evaluated. This reveals whether
the idea is valuable or not.
Meaning of Lateral Thinking
• Lateral Thinking is the method of exploring
multiple possibilities and approaches instead
of pursuing a single approach.
• Lateral Thinking is solving problems through
an indirect and creative approach, using
reasoning that is not immediately obvious and
involving ideas that may not be obtainable by
using only traditional set-by-step logic.
Techniques of Lateral Thinking
• Generation of Alternatives:- The most basic principal of lateral
thinking is that any particular way of looking at things is only now
among other possible ways i.e how many ways can we find to solve
problems or tackle it.
• Challenging assumptions:- The idea here is to challenge not the
arrangement of ideas but the ideas themselves. It is usually
assumed that the basic ideas are sound and then one starts fitting
them together to give different patterns.
• Creativity:- it is ability to produce something new through
imaginative skill which could be a new solution to a problem, a new
method or device or new artistic object or form.
• Innovation:- Challenging assumptions and generation of
alternatives techniques are very similar to vertical/critical thinking.
These techniques results in newness by evaluating various options
available.
• Analogies:- These are used in lateral thinking by translating
problems into analogies and than develop the analogy.
Meaning of Goal Setting
• Goal Setting is the tendency to set goals and
to make long-term plans to reach these goals

desired outcomes toward which individuals,
teams, departments, and organizations will
strive and is intended to increase
organizational efficiency and effectiveness
S.M.A.R.T Goals
Organizations use S.M.A.R.T goals for effective goal –setting. It is a need to
know how to structure such goals, which has handy acronym for the five
characteristics of well – designed goals which are as follows:-
• Specific:- A specific goal has a much greater chance of being
accomplished than a general goal. Goals must be clear and
unambiguous; vagaries and platitude have no place in goal setting.
• Measurable:- A goal must be measureable in order to have value.
Measurement means something that cab be observed in some capacity.
• Attainable:- Goals must be attainable. The best goals require stretching a
bit to achieve them, but they are not extreme. That is, the goals are
neither out of reach nor below standard performance.
• Realistic:- Goals must be an important tool in the grand scheme of
reaching the vision of where one wants to be or what he wants to
accomplish. To be realistic, a goal must represent an objective toward
which you are both willing and able to works.
• Time Bound:- A goal should be grounded within a time frame. Effective
goals must have starting points, ending points, and fixed durations.
Commitment to deadlines helps people focus their efforts on completion
of the goal on or before the due date.
Short Time Goals
Short term goals are ones that a person will achieve in the near
future, typically in less than one year. These goals are often, but
not always, stepping-stones on the way to achieving long term
goals.
Benefits of Short Term Goals:-
1. They are simple and easy to accomplish
2. They do not require long term commitment
3. It is a great way to create momentum.
4. They allow to stay on track and keep motivation high
Types of Short Term Goals:-
• Foundational Goal:- These will most likely to accomplished in less
than one year. These may be enabling goals that may need to be
accomplished prior to capstone goals being met.
• Provisional Goals:- These are usually stepping stones to the larger
goals. Typically, these are completed in less than a month. These
are type of goals an individual focuses on a daily basis and more
often used for technical improvements.
Long Time Goals
Long Term Goals are those goals which are made to be achieved after
five to six years. A lot of timing and planning is required on the part
of individuals to achieve long term goals.

Personalized Time Goals


Personal Goal setting is an important basic life skill. Without knowing
how to set goals, developing other skills- as will as achieving overall
success in life- can become more difficult. In fact, some levels of
success may become impossible to attain.

Lifetime Goals
Life time goals are those major goals that on would like to accomplish
over his lifetime. Depending on the age, these goals ay be

Types of Lifetime Time Goals:-
• Career Goal:- These are the one’s which an individual wants to
achieve in long term and of his/her own path in terms of education,
stream, profession etc.,
• Financial Goals:- These are the one’s which an individual or
organization acquire money and purpose for the same, which may
be in terms of profitability, Profit maximization, increase standard
of living for an individual or expansion for an organization.
• Family Goals:- These goals are often neglected. But, one must be
certain of their responsibilities towards family so that you can work
other goals around it.
• Capstone Goals:- These are commonly those key goals one will
need to accomplish first before you accomplish you lifetime goals.
These goals will typically be accomplished in one year’s time.
Time Management
Time management is defined as gaining control over what you do
when you do it, how you do it, and why you do it
Time management is defined as organizing and monitoring time so
that tasks can be scheduled and completed in an efficient and
timely manner.
Diagnosing Time Management:-
Following list covers some of the most common signs of diagnosing
poor time management:-
• Poor Punctuality:- You are regularly late for your appointments or
completing your tasks. This might be due to accepting too many
tasks or your inability to assign the correct amount of time to your
activities.
• Impatience:- It is usually a sign of poor time management. Have
failed to allow sufficient time for a task or , have procrastinated
excessively, You find yourself under extreme pressure to make a
you but the truth is that you have failed by failing to manage time
properly.

• Poorly Defined Goals:- Goals help to identify priorities. They
outline what you want to achieve, when you want to achieve it by
and the importance of the task. If do not have clearly defined goals,
it is very difficult to achieve the goals set and focus on.
• Lack of Energy:- When you have poor time management skills, you
are constantly chasing your tail. You constantly fall behind in tasks
energy levels begin to drop and you lost motivation.
• Indecisiveness:- When you are faced with more than one option,
you are unable to choose an option and run with it. You spend
excessive time going over the options without coming to a
conclusion.
• Doing Everything yourself:- One of the clearest signs of poor time
management is when you do everything ourself. It does not matter
whether you are self employed or an employee, There are always
tasks which can be delegated, automated or outsourced.
Weekly Planner
Weekly planner allows you to allocate time, hour-by-hour throughout
the course of the day and the week, giving you very clear guidelines
around what to do and when to do it. Although some people may find
this confining, others welcome the order and control that this system .
• Steps to use weekly planner:-
1. Think about all of the different things that require your time or
attention during a week which are expected to do or complete.
2. Put essential and non-flexible commitments into your planner
first.
3. Remember that it is generally not possible to fit in all the things
we would like to do in a week. You will need to priorities what you
need to do in order to ensure that you have enough time to make
it happen.
4. Make sure that you schedule in some relaxation or down time into
your schedule. Not every cell in your planner needs to be allocated
to an activity.

will need to re=think how much you have taken on and make
changes as appropriate.
6. Be realistic about how you are allocating your time.
7. Some people like to have very fixed schedules while others like a

By keeping to-do list, one make sure that tasks are written down all in
one place so do not forget anything important. And by prioritizing
tasks, one plan the order in which you will do them, so that one
can tell what needs your immediate attention, and what you will
leave until later.
Tips for Time Management
• Macro Planning:- Take a long term perspective, set goals and draw up a
broad plan. This gives an overview and a broad framework to work
within.
• Plan Each Day:- This is very helpful to achieve small tasks that add up to
major tasks. Plan your day in advance, schedule the tasks and set out to
complete them, this could be like preparing a to-do list.
• Prioritize Tasks:- Always prioritize the tasks at hand so that the
important and urgent ones get completed first. This would prevent last
minute rush
• Say no to non essential work:- Learn to say no to tasks that are not
essential for the attainment of goals so that the focus can remain on
important ones.
• Delegate:- Is the key to good management. One cannot do everything
himself hence it is essential to delegate certain tasks to others based on
their competencies.
• Break large task to small :- Just as long term goals can be broken down
to smaller specific tasks, complex tasks may require them to be broken
into smaller more achievable tasks.
