Research - Activity #1

1. The study aimed to determine the most effective learning session for preparing nursing students for internships by having them participate in one of two bed bath procedure sessions. 2. The independent variable was the type of learning session (laboratory simulation vs online module) and the dependent variable was the results of a questionnaire given to students after each session and after their internship. 3. The researchers used a constructivist paradigm and applied research method to understand which learning session contributed more to the students' knowledge and skills through their experiences.

Research Report
1. How relevant is the research problem in this report to the actual practice of nursing? Does
the study focus on a topic that is a priority area for nursing research?
2. What is the purpose (or purposes) of the study—identification, description, exploration,
explanation, or prediction and control? Does the purpose correspond to an EBP focus such as
treatment, diagnosis, prognosis, harm/etiology, or meaning?
3. What is the paradigm of the study?
4. Identify the independent and the dependent variable of the study.
4. What is the method used in the study? What do you think is more appropriate
5. What is the level of evidences used in the study? To what type of  people and settings is
the research most relevant? If the findings are accurate, how might  the results be use for
this study?

Research Report ASSESSMENT

Based on my opinion, this research is not that relevant since
Relevance of the bed bath procedure is seldomly done in nursing practice, I
suggest that other areas such as intervention, management, or
research problem documentation could be more prioritized than this topic.
(1 statement only)

This study aims to determine which learning session relating

Purpose of the Study to bed bath procedure would work well for the students as
preparation for the internship. The study does not correspond
(1 statement only) to the EBP since the study focuses on the students’ skills
rather than the nursing practice itself.
Paradigm of the I believe that constructivism is the paradigm that the
Study researchers used in this study, since the experiences of the
respondents would determine the results of the study. The
(2 statements) study relies on the participants—the distance of the researcher
and respondents was minimized since only small amount of
time from the participants was needed.
Independent and The independent variable here is the two learning session that
Dependent would be conducted, hence, the dependent variable is the
result of the study. The laboratory simulation being a great
(2 statements) way to prepare students prior to internship however, it has a
discrepancy on how it was done in clinical practice. The result
will be depending on the question the researchers are posing.
Method of the study Based on my understanding, the method utilized in this
research is basic research. Since, the researcher aims to
understand deeper which learning session could effectively
(2 statements) contribute well to the knowledge and skills of the students.
And for me, applied research could be more appropriate
method to use since the researchers are trying to know what
learning session would work well and to address the problem
that laboratory practice has a discrepancy when it comes to
clinical practice.
Level of Evidences The level of evidence used in this research is Randomized
Controlled Trials (RCT) since there was 160 population of
students to answer the questionnaire and they were followed
(2 statements) back immediately after the training session and a short time
after the clinical practice. (kulang pa)
