CSEC May-June 2003 Paper 2

The document is a marking scheme for a CSEC exam that evaluates students' understanding of capillaries. It provides 3 key characteristics of capillaries: they have a single cell-thick wall that allows for easy substance passage; their lumen is small enough for only one red blood cell to pass at a time; and they have an extensive branching system to reach all body cells. It also lists the main substances that pass through capillaries - mineral salts, food, water and oxygen into tissues and carbon dioxide out of tissues. Finally, it notes that blood plasma is 90% water, making it a good solvent that can dissolve and transport many substances anywhere in the body.
