BACKGROUND

STICKERS

Reverlink U

Reverlink® U is a so-called sticker with the imidazolidone moiety that is found in all
Reverlink® products. Reverlink® U can be used to modify existing polymers in order to
enhance their original performance. The reactive site of Reverlink® U that can be used
for grafting on existing polymers is a primary amine.
On demand, ARKEMA can provide modifed versions of Reverlink® U that contain other
reactive end groups (OH, SH, COOH…).

Reverlink NoVOC

Reverlink® NoVOC is an additive for aqueous pigment dispersions (pigment

concentrates, paints) or mineral suspensions (slurries, impregnation aqueous solutions).
It is a non-VOC neutralizing agent according to EU regulatory criteria (Bp > 280°C for
architectural paints and automotive refinishing, vapor pressure at room temperature <
10 Pa for industrial coatings). It provides better formulation stability through pH control
and also through improved dispersion when compared to other non-VOC bases. Water
sensitivity is reduced, better adhesion of the coating films is achieved, and corrosion
protection is enhanced. Reverlink® NoVoc has a good toxicological profile (it has very
low acute toxicity with DLO rat > 2 g/g, is not bioaccumulative, not biocidal, not
biosynergistic, not mutagenic).

Reverlink HR & HM

Reverlink® HR and HM are “hybrid” grades : combination of supramolecular assemblies

with chemical curing bringing additional cohesion. Raw materials are largely bio-sourced:
vegetal carbon content is 70% for HR and 92% for HM.
ARKEMA provides non-cured versions of the two materials, respectively Reverlink® HR-NR
and HM-NR. They are then ideally processed through mold casting as they can be poured
as a liquid paste at around 90°C. Curing requires several hours at temperatures from 120
to 150°C.
Reverlink® HR has a much higher modulus than Reverlink® HM, the latter being very soft
and slightly tacky. Reverlink® HR can be plasticized with plasticizers such as those
commonly used for polyamides.

Beyond self-healing and elastomeric behavior, an major characteristic of Reverlink® HR

and HM is their high vibration and impact damping efficiency over a broader range of
temperature than is typically observed, from -10 to 110°C.
This is illustrated by the high tangent delta shown in the figure below. These properties
are useful in flooring applications, noise prevention in the automotive industry, and other
dampening applications.
