• If you hadn't spent all your money, you could have

• If you had told me about the delay sooner, we might


not have had so many problems with the project.

TIP: If the result clause comes before the if-


clause, we don’t use a comma (,) between them.

real/unreal situations in the past.
We can use could/might

instead of would to talk about results that were
