What is a Project?
▪ Project Management Institute (PMI): “a project is a
temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique
product, service, or result” (PMI, 2013, p. 573).

Definitions
▪ Project: It is a collection of activities that have a definite
start and a definite end.
▪ Activity: It is a task that should be completed within a
specified duration and a predetermined amount of
resources.
▪ Resources: Labors, equipment, and materials are
examples of resources.
▪ Milestone: It resembles a significant stage or event upon
which a deliverable must be submitted.
▪ Deliverable: It is a work product or service that is delivered
to the client.

Portfolio vs. Project
▪ Portfolio: a group of projects that are usually under one
project manager or department.
▪ Subprojects: segments of the original project that are
divided according to phases, responsibilities, area, or other
criteria.
