1. To whom does the FCC report within the government?

-The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent Federal regulatory agency


responsible directly to Congress.
-The FCC is directed by five commissioners appointed by the President and confirmed by the
Senate for five-year terms, except when filling an unexpired term. The President designates one
commissioner to serve as chairman. As the chief executive officer of the Commission, the
chairman delegates management and administrative responsibility to the Managing Director.

2. To whom does the NTIA report within the government?

 NTIA is also a leading source of research and data on the status of broadband availability and adoption
in America.

Agency Organization

NTIA is comprised of the following offices that report to the Office of the Assistant Secretary:

 Office of International Affairs (OIA)


 Office of Policy Analysis and Development (OPAD)
 Office of Public Safety Communications (OPSC)
 Office of Spectrum Management (OSM)
 Office of Telecommunications and Information Applications (OTIA)
 Institute for Telecommunication Sciences (ITS)

In addition, the Office of Chief Counsel, the Office of Congressional Affairs, Office of Policy Coordination
and Management, and the Office of Public Affairs support agency-wide activities through their work.  

3. What is the purpose and function of the FCC?

- The Federal Communications Commission regulates interstate and international communications by


radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories. An
independent U.S. government agency overseen by Congress, the Commission is the federal agency
responsible for implementing and enforcing America’s communications law and regulations.

4. What is the purpose and function of the NTIA?

- The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) is a federal agency in the
United States government responsible for advising the US President on issues related to
telecommunications and information technology policies. NTIA is located within the Department of
Commerce (DoC). 

5. What is the FCC code of federal regulation (CFR) Title 47?


- The official rules are published and maintained by the Government Printing Office (GPO) in
the Federal Register. Additional information about the Federal Register is available at the National
Archives and Records Administration web site.

An online version of the FCC Rules is available at the GPO e-CFR website. The e-CFR is authorized and
maintained by the National Archives and Records Administration's (NARA) Office of the Federal Register
(OFR) and GPO.
