The terms "dimtal system", "sampled-data system", and "discrete-time. system" may be
regarded as :;yrionyms.
1.: Given is the signal u(t) according to fig. 1 .
I
u(t) =0 fort <0, u(t)=2*exp(0.3*t) forOst:$4, u(t)=Ofort>4.
------- _ .. ---
1.1: Determine the order m ofthe "spectral high-frequency roll-off', i.e., the magnitude
spectrum. U(i) ofu(t) is proportional to I/f m for high frequencies.
1.2: Determine the DC value ofu(t) and the energy ofu(t).
2.: You shall design a digital FIR notch filter having two poles and two zeros and
sampling frequency Fs = 80k..'{z. The notch frequency shall be fo = 8~, i.e., with an LllPUt
sequence which is sampled from an analog sine signal of frequency fo, no signal shall be
present at the notch fJ.lter's outpu1.
2.1: Give the values of the poles and zeros, and sketch them into the z plane. Give the
transfer function H(z) in numerator and denominator polynomial form.
2.2: Sketch the impulse response sequence h[k] and the signal flow graph oftbis FIR filter.
;
2.3: Using convolution, find the output sequence y[k] (k = 0... 9) for an input sequence
u[k] = {O, 0.588,0.951,0.951,0.588,0, -0.588, -0.951, -0.951, -0.588 }. The first element has
order number k = 0; u[k] contains 10 samples of a 8kHz sine sampled at Fs.
• Can you make a comment regarding the result for y[k] ?
3.: An analog signal is u1(t) = 4~'cos(21l:*fo*t) + 6*cos(21t*fl *t) with frequency fo =
4kFf..z and f1 = 9kHz; i.e., it is the sum oftv"o cosines of different frequency cmd amplitude.
This function is sampled with sampling time interval Ts = 66.67f.Ls; the sampler's output is
u2(t) (see fig.2).
u2(t) then passes an ideallmlirpass
+
filter (LPF) of bandwidth ±7.5kB...z, i.e., it passes signals
v/ith frequency Ifl :$ 7.5 kHz and rejects other frequencies.
.3,1~ Sketch the spectra UIef) and U2(f) ; scale the frequency a.xis from -551c.."Y:z to +55kf.:. :i.
Indicate the amplitude aud frequency of each spectral line.
3.2~ Sketch the spectrum U3(f) (output of LPF) . Wha.t v,rill happen to this spectrum ifboth
~equencies fo a.nd fl were increased by O.51~7 each'!
