CONTINUOUS INTERNAL EVALUATION-I
Semester: 5th Date:21/10/2020 Course: Electromagnetic Waves Code:18EC55 Max. Marks: 50 Course Coordinator: Prof. Chaitanya K J Duration: 1 Hour 30 Min Note: Answer any one full question choosing from each part. Part -A Q. R.B.T. Question Marks CO Level No. 1 a) State and explain Coulomb’s law of force between two point charges in vector form. 5 i L1 Two point charges, Q1=50µC and Q2=10µC are located at (-1, 1, -3)m and (3, 1, 0)m 1 b) 10 i L2 respectively. Find the force on Q1. Let a point Q1=25nC be located at A(4, -2, 7) and a charge Q2=60nC be at B(-3, 4, 2). 1 c) Find ⃗ E at C(1, 2, 3). Also find the direction of the electric field. 10 i L2 Given ∈0 = 8.854 x 10−12 F/m. OR Define Electric field intensity. Derive the electric field intensity due to ‘n’ number of 2 a) 5 i L1 point charges. Two very small conducting spheres, each of mass 1x 10−4 kg are suspended at a common point by very thin filaments of length 0.2m. A charge Q coulomb is placed on 2 b) each sphere. The electric force of repulsion separates the spheres and an equilibrium is 10 i L2 reached when the suspending filaments make an angle of 10° . Assuming, ∈r=1 , g = 9.8 N/kg and negligible mass for the filaments. Find Q. The two point charges, Q1=0.3µC and Q2=0.5µC are located in free space at 2 c) A(25, -30, -15)cm and B(-10, 8, 12)cm respectively. Find electric field intensity E, 10 i L2 at P(15, 20, 50)cm. Part –B 3 a) Derive the expression for the electric field intensity due to infinite line charges 5 i L1 Two point charges Q1=100µC and Q2=10µC are located at points (-1, 1, -3)m and 3 b) (3, 1, 0)m respectively. Find the x, y and z components of the force on Q 1. What is the 10 i L2 magnitude of the total force? Two point charges of +3x10−9 C and -2x10−9 C are spaced two meter apart. Determine 3 c) 10 i L2 the electric field at a point which is one meter from each of the two point charges. OR A charge Q2=121 x 10 C is located in vacuum at P2(-0.03, 0.01, 0.04)m. Find the force −9 4 a) 5 i L2 on Q2 due to Q1=110 x 10−6 C at P1(0.03, 0.08, -0.02)m. Charges of 20nC and –20nC are located at (3, 0, 0) and (-3, 0, 0) respectively. 4 b) 10 i L2 Assuming ∈=∈0, determine | ⃗ E | at P(0, Y, 0). Determine the electric field intensity at a point A located at distances 0.3m and 0.4m 4 c) respectively from charges Q1 and Q2 spaced 0.5m apart. Q1 has charge of 1x10−9 C 10 i L2 while Q2 has a charge 8x10−10 C.
