What is CREATIVITY? Page 6

Creativity is an original cognitive ability and problem solving process which

enables individuals to use their intelligence in a way that is unique and
directed toward coming up
with a product.

Torrance (1974) defined creativity as “a process of becoming sensitive to

problems, deficiencies, gaps in knowledge, missing elements, disharmonies,
and so on; identifying the difficulty; searching for solutions, making guesses,
or formulating hypotheses about the deficiencies: testing and retesting these
hypotheses and possibly modifying and retesting them; and finally
communicating the results.” Creativity is often considered as the ability to
generate ideas that are both innovative and functional

When we describe an architectural work as a work of art, this also includes the
word creativity (Nervi & Ricken, 1990).

What is GENERAL PRACTICE OF ARCHITECTURE?

According top RA 9266, it is the act of planning and architectural

designing, structural conceptualization, specifying, supervising
and giving general administration and responsible direction to the
erection, enlargement or alterations of buildings and building
environments and architectural design in engineering structures
or any part thereof; the scientific, aesthetic and orderly
coordination of all the processes which enter into the production
of a complete building or structure performed through the medium
of unbiased preliminary studies of plans, consultations,
specifications, conferences, evaluations, investigations, contract
documents and oral advice and directions

What is an
ARCHITECT?

The word architect is derived from Greek word architekton which

means master builder.

Architects are licensed professionals trained in the art and science

of building design. They transform needs into concepts and develop
it into images and plans of the buildings that can be constructed.

EDUCATION of
an ARCHITECT Bachelor of Science in Architecture is a
five-year degree program in the
Philippines that is concerned with the
design and planning of architectural
structures.

Architectural design is the core major

subject of architectural education, it is
one kind of problem solving that
primarily involves a series of actions
that must be performed in order to
solve a design problem (Chan, 1990).
P a g e 18

EDUCATION of
an ARCHITECT According to objectives of architectural
education, students should be
educated not only to gain theoretical
knowledge, but also to transform this
knowledge with their creativity to the
actual practice.

In architecture education “Project

Based Learning” is applied to allow
instructors to create tasks whose
complexity and openness mimic real
world problems.
