SELF REFLECTION
Community service is an essential activity that every person should embrace as they grow
up. This community service gave us several chances to use our skills to support those in need of
encouragement and extra assistance. Every Saturday along with my fellow students in MA-83,
we performed our community service with the young childrens from Alangilan Barangay Hall.
Before I started my volunteer work the notion of community service was a bore to me. I
was terrified to begin my service to the community though I knew I had to do it. It didn’t even
matter to me where and when I spend my hours. I just wanted to get over with it. To my surprise
it wasn’t what I thought it will be. Community service has not been a frustrating experience; it
has been an incredibly fun and valuable experience. During extra time we do some game
activities with our little buddies, which they love the most. These activities that helps to
strengthen the bonds between us. Among my numerous commitments to community service, this
activity impacted my character in a positive manner and allowed me into a more patient,
responsible and flexible person. Because of this event we became part of every children’s
development. Developing the kid’s real-world skills that will help them succeed soon. We were
able to teach them leadership, collaboration with others and communication. I personally find
this experience worthwhile and meaningful as we are improving their self-confidence to gain
knowledge. While performing community service I had the chance to improve the talents I
already had, I also had the opportunity to build a new set of skills. Furthermore, this volunteer
opportunity allowed me to briefly forget all my problems, because spending time with the kids
turned me into happier and more content person. Seeing the enjoyment to see these kids having a
huge smile on their faces has been a great privilege, fun and refreshing. The impact I had on
these young children’s lives and the grateful smiles that their parents flashed at us when their
children received prizes were priceless. Nothing else could equal the wonderful feeling I had of
making a difference in those children’s lives. Nevertheless, the entire thing was a lesson in my
responsibilities. This improved my patience and made the experience more unique.
Even though community service is intended to help others, I sometimes feel as if I have
benefited more than the people I helped on several different levels; mentally, and spiritually.
Through helping others, I learned to respect and appreciate myself and my actions at a more
profound level. Overall, the opportunity granted me a chance to broaden my horizons.
Community service brings out the qualities I never knew existed inside me, motivating me to
become more compassionate and loving, and encouraging me to strive towards being a better
person. Moreover, it is not only for the positive impact we can make on the world, but also for
the positive impact of volunteering has on us.
