This image is an example of Bad user interface design. The first impression of this website gives
the burden to the user.
Easily usable:
It is not easy to use because the software is burdened with the overfilled
options which makes the user uncomfortable.
Menus:
The brand name should always be on the left side to make it look user-friendly.
But here it is on the right side. Also, the login and register buttons available in the menu
are very small in size and it is difficult to differentiate between them.
Visualization:
There is no clear navigation, content and interactions. It does not keep a
good balance in the visual hierarchy which leaves bad impression on users.
Layout:
The layout is not flexible. It only makes user more confused which makes
difficult to discover the required things.
Easy to understand?
It is not easy to understand because website is visually overloaded. It
does not keep good balance. Too much time is consumed in figuring out the options.
Readability issues
Good UI includes content too and unreadable content is absolute no-no
for good UI. Make sure font size is big enough, the actual font itself is appropriate, and
your color-scheme makes it easy to read what’s on your website.
Confusing
It will be unclear about where the visitor should go next.
Inconsistent style
It doesn’t mean that the mashup style is not good, but if the overall interface has
a huge and ugly visual conflict, it’s better to redesign it. An excellent UI design should
be consistent on the style in order to make users clearly understand and respond to the
given content. This will also do good to improve the work efficiency.
Clunky and sluggish form
Sometimes, we need to collect the user related info by designing a better
form, but the sluggish and clunky form is totally a waste of time. It’s better to
streamline the involved steps to make the form look concise and clear.
Things like the user signup form or comment area is a social interaction element in the
design. To add social sharing button (like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn),
or to enter the email address to sign up for the newsletter can only add the ways to
spread our info, but also increase the user retention rate.
Differentiate between good and bad interface design
There are some universal traits of good and bad UI’s that are shared across all kinds of websites.
Traits of a good UI:
Intuitive – people can feel their way around quite easily
Familiar – even if people visit your website for the first time, they should feel like they
know how it works
Leading – the best UI’s will lead people from point to point, moving them along their
journey to their ultimate goal: buying your product
Traits of a bad UI:
Sluggish and unresponsive – interaction will be slow and clunky
Complicated – the site will be hard for people to understand
Confusing – it will be unclear about where the visitor should go next
Inconsistent design – pages will look different, throwing users off
No target – there is no clear audience for the website
Lack of social interaction – social media plays a big part in business nowadays and
people like to see that
