II.  Description

The course aims to further develop awareness and use of the conventions of academic English among students. The course will
further develop reading and writing ability in a variety of academic registers as well as developing listening and speaking skills through
listening comprehension exercises, oral presentations and role plays, written practices and short readings. In doing so, students will develop
the ability to perform in all four skills.

The students are also be involved in communicative activities when they practice and learn everyday life expressions within content,

spelling, and grammar to fulfill the labor and legal needs of our country.

The methodology applied to be acquired in the learning of the English language consists of a dynamic, communicative and active
process, based on cooperative and communicative strategies.
The assessment of this course consists of a previous diagnostic exam, which allows the professor to get students’ weaknesses and
strengths. According to the formative aspect, it will include individual and group works, asking and answering oral and written questions.
They will be assessed in the summative form by applying current oral and written tests. At the end of the term, the students will do a final
examination or project related to the relevant structures studied during the whole term.

III.  Competences

The student:

 Applies the basic knowledge of the English language.

 Acquires new linguistic concepts to easily understand, speak with fluency, read and write correctly in English and to be able to

act in everyday life situations.

 Develops the ability to interact in a simultaneous and automatic way, when he or she communicates in English.

 He or she determines the appropriate ways of communicating in oral and written forms

 He/she recognizes the vocabulary and the morpho-syntactical structures, according to the context, in order to get the production

and comprehension of this language.

 He/she uses everyday social expressions according to the situation.

 He/she imitates speech sounds of the pronunciation.

 He/she integrates new functions and variations in the use of the English language.

 He/she applies social rules according to the English culture.

 He/she recognizes the importance of the correct use of the forms, according to the functions and uses.

 He/she has self-confidence when communicating in English.


 He/she demonstrates interest to improve his/her linguistic knowledge and social interaction.

 He/she values the oral and written use of the language.


IV.       Content
Module No. 1: Trips and Experiences
Period: 12 hours (3 weeks)
The lexicon about achievements, learning languages, and challenging activities.

Modulo No. 2: The Mental Intelligences


Period: 16 hours (4 weeks)
The lexicón about giving advice, recommendation, comparisons, the Internet’s largest encyclopedia.

Módule No. 3: Feelings and Emotions


Period: 8 hours (2 weeks)
The vocabulary about anecdote, humorous stories, favorite fictional characters, etc.

Module No. 4: Predictions


Period: 16 hours (4 weeks)
The lexicon related to superpowers, thinking ahead, great expectations.

Module No. 5: An Interconnected World


Period: 12 hours (3 weeks)
The vocabulary is related to professional relationships, financial decisions/regrets, express priorities.

V.  Methodology and resources

With the purpose of developing this lesson planning, some techniques and strategies are applied like inductive and deductive
techniques, cooperative learning, questionnaire, concept mapping, graffiti, phrase sequence, pamphlets, graphic organizers, impromptu
speeches, etc.

The resources to be used to communicate with the students are UP Virtual, Microsoft Teams, e-mails, videos, audios, Word and
PDF documents, textbooks, and others.
