Short Visit To Paris

Rizal spent Christmas in London with the Beckett family in 1888. He had a romantic affair with the oldest Beckett sister, Gertrude, but did not reciprocate her feelings out of loyalty to Leonor Rivera. In early 1889, Rizal departed for Paris to forget about Gertrude, after having written several works in London promoting Filipino nationalism, like the famous "Letter to the Young Women of Malolos."
