Impedance Adjustment For Synchronous Machine PDF
Impedance Adjustment For Synchronous Machine PDF
The ohmic impedances of a synchronous motor (henceforth, referred as a motor) remain the
same, irrespective of the change in operating power factor.
Rated MVA = 22
Rated Power Factor at 100% loading = 78%
Xd” = 15%
Suppose the motor operating power factor is 95% (at 100% loading). This means that the rated
power factor (at 100% loading) is changed from 78% to 95%, on the ETAP PowerStation motor
editor. PowerStation will automatically adjust the Rated MVA of the motor, with reference to the
change in power factor. Suppose the new Rated MVA for this case is 27.
However the impedance values (Xd”, X0, X2 etc.) on the Model page of the PowerStation motor
editor that are based on the rated MVA (22), will not be automatically adjusted to the new rated
MVA (27). The values should be adjusted using the following equation:
27
For the above case: New Impedance Value = 15% × = 18.40%
