Working with Multiple Network Keys

Description: Multiple Network Keys

Category: Installation
Type: Modeling
Keywords: Server, License Manager

ETAP allows you to work with multiple network keys (ETAP License Manager) installed on
different computers. Each network key may be configured differently and have different
Activation Codes.

After installing the ETAP License Manager on each server computer (following the instructions
for network key installation), you need to setup the client computers (where ETAP is installed) to
receive authorization from either network key.

1. Go to the C:\WINNT\ or C:\WINDOWS\ folder on the client computer.

2. Locate the ETAPS.INI file.
3. Double-click the file to open it in Microsoft Notepad.
4. Under the heading [AppVariables], modify the line that says “LM Server=”, by adding the
name of the sever computer where the License Manager is installed.
If you are using a TCP/IP setup for the License Manager, you need to enter the IP
address of the sever computer instead of the computer name. Please see the license
manager installation instructions for more details.
5. Modify the line that says “LicKeyCode0= or LicKeyCode1”by adding the CD key that you
have received from OTI.
Note that the CD Key line in the INI file is automatically created when you run ETAP for
the 1st time and prompts you to enter the CD key.
6. Save the file before you run ETAP.

Example
For example, one key could be installed on Server1 and another on Server2:

[AppVariables]

LM Server=Server1

LicKeyCode0=uM6WkQFaJh5D5vNNSW2Z#CExwdDG@BKjh#7k

If you want to get license authorization from a different ETAP License Manager, you need to
change the “LM Sever” and “CD Key” lines. To do so, comment out these lines by placing
two // characters in front, and enter two new lines for the new server name and CD key. To
switch between the two keys, simply comment out the lines that do apply prior to launching
ETAP.

Sometimes it may be more convenient to place the ETAPS.INI file inside the ETAP
installation directory. This may be necessary when access to the windows directory is
restricted. To do this, just place a copy of the ETAPS.INI file from the Windows / WINNT
directories into to the ETAP installation directory. ETAP looks for the INI file first in its own
directory, and then in the Windows directory.
