Enumerate the government agencies and institutions that are responsible in the promotion and
preservation of art
Explain how the Philippine government and its people value art, culture, and heritage.
∞ Art is a national heritage that is essential in building the nation and ensuring democracy.
∞ Our arts like paintings, sculptures, songs, dances, poetry, and other forms remind people of
the origins, history, struggles, and triumphs of the nation.
∞ When the citizens are conscious and proud of their cultural heritage, they became active
agents in nation building.
∞ Executive Order No. 118 created the presidential Commission on the Culture and Arts in 1987,
as part of the democratic thrust of Corazon Aquino administration.
∞ Five years later, Republic Act 7356 established the National Commission for Culture and the
Arts (NCCA).
National Commission for Culture and the Arts
∞ It is the country’s “overall policy making body, coordinating, and grant
giving agency for the preservation, development of promotion of Philippine
arts and culture.
∞ NCCA is the state agency responsible for the promotion of arts and culture
from various regions.
∞ There are six arts and cultural government agencies under NCCA namely:
Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), National Historical Commisio of the Philippines
(NHCP), National Museum of the Philippines, National Library of the Philippines (NLP), The
National Archives of the Philippines, and Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF).
Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP)
∞ is the premiere showcase of the arts in the
Philippines. Founded in 1969.
∞ The CCP has been producing and presenting
music, dance, theater, visual arts, literary,
cinematic and design events from the Philippines
and all over the world for more than forty years.
∞ Its nine resident companies, namely, Ballet Philippines, Philippine Ballet Theater, Tanghalang
Pilipino, Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group, the Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance
Company, Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, UST Symphony Orchestra, Philippine Madrigal
Singers and the National Music Competition for Young Artists Foundation (NAMCYA) present
a regular season of productions, workshops and outreach performances.
National Historical Commission of the Philippines
∞ The NHCP carries out the mandate by promoting Philippine history and
cultural heritage through research, dissemination, and conversion, sites
management, and heraldry works.
∞ It is the identification, conservation, and restoration of historical sites
around different regions of the country.

National Museum of the Philippines
∞ Located in the heart of Manila.
∞ NMP is the country’s repository of archaeological artifacts, national
treasures, and rare specimens found and produced in the county.
∞ The main task of this institution is to solicit, document, preserve,
exhibit, and promote the natural and artificial wonders of the
Philippines.
∞ It has two main divisions – The National History Museum and National Art gallery.
∞ The KFW was created via Republic Act No. 7104: “Congress shall
establish a national language commission composed of
representatives of various regions and disciplines which shall
undertake, coordinate, and promote researches for the
development, propagation, and preservation of Filipino and other
Philippine languages.
∞ To promote and develop our national language, the KWL has
annually given the Talaang Ginto: Makata ng Taon for Filipino poetry, Aklat ng Bayan, and
other grants or programs on funding awards, and projects.
