CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Students having a hard time in physics is not new these days. Physics,

according to Feynman, Leighton, & Sands (2011), is the natural science that

studies matter. It also includes motion of matter and its behaviour in space and

time, energy and force also have relation with physics (Maxwell, 2010). Therefore,

physics is a subject that requires students to advance into various approaches of

understanding and convert from one to the other such as words, tables of

numbers, graphs, equations and the like (Redish, 2010) as cited by (Ornek,

Robinson, & Haugan, 2008). The question that lies there is that if the students

were really equipped enough and prepared to take in the subject physics. This

study aims to know the readiness of the Grade 11 STEM students of Ateneo de

Davao University to take on the subject physics for their 12th Grade.

The urgency of having this is research is that students are really having trouble in

Physics. According to Ahlstrom & McGuire (2013), Physics have 7.2% per cent

failure rate at higher level of education while in ordinary level have 9.3% of failure

rate. In the context here in Ateneo, since we belong still in the ordinary level

having 45 students it is expected that 4 students will usually fail not including those

who are struggling. Also, Physics is an important subject in college especially

those who are taking up Engineering. Without the knowledge of Physics,

engineering would be difficult for them. Calculating the right answers and formulas

would be impossible without Physics.

2

A study conducted by Erinosho (2013) in schools within Ogun and Lagos State,

Nigeria composed with 830 students and 52 physics teachers showed that a

massive 58% of the respondents consider physics as a hard subject, only 34% are

enjoying the subject and only a disappointing 18% would like to pursue major in

physics after school. The results of the study showed how students are having

trouble in Physics and how low their interest on the said subject and just taking it

since they will need it in the future. In the Philippines, a lot of secondary high

school students have difficulties in Physics. The current science education in the

Philippines is not globally competitive especially the Physics subject. In the

Second International Science Study or SISS (2003) ranks Philippines at the

bottom out of 17 nations who took part of the evaluation. The lack of instructional

materials and technologies also contribute to the poor Physics education in the

Philippines (Nava and Camarao, 2017). They also stated that classroom

environment, learning materials, subject matter and the teachers also contributes

to the problem. In Davao City, specifically in the Ateneo Senior High School, a lot

of students are having difficulty with Physics. These resulted to low or failing

grades by a lot of STEM students. The STEM learners are struggling with the

subject even though they focused on the subject alone. With the addition of other

school requirements, students tend to cram, and the Physics subject has been left

out.

Thus, the objective of the study is to investigate the readiness of Grade 11

Ateneo de Davao University SHS STEM students to take on Physics during their

Grade 12. The purpose of this study is that it can address certain lapses if there is
3

one to be found and make the system of the school better for the students and

make Physics an easier subject for them. It can also address the level of

preparedness of students to Physics.

Theoretical Framework

In this research, the study is anchored with the research “Study Habits in

Physics among students and effects on Academic Performance” which stated that

study habits of a particular student affects their academic performance especially

in the Physics subject (Aadenan, Hamdan and Makhtar, 2017). Majority of them

have difficulty and their poor study habits affect their performance and skill in

Physics. This theory would explain how study habits affect the performance of the

learner in taking Physics.

Another study that will be adapt is the “The Impact of Time Management on

Students’ Academic Achievement” which stated that time management can be

classified as time planning, time attitudes and time wasting (Razali, S.N.A.M., et

al., 2018) The willingness, optimism, stress and self-efficacy affect the time

management of a particular student that may affect their performance in school.

This theory will explain if the students are good in managing their time if they will

take Physics.

The last study that would be anchored is the “Effects of Mathematics

Knowledge on Physics students performance” stated that adequate knowledge in

Mathematics is compulsorily required for the understanding and application of the

concepts of Physics” (Ibibo and Francis, 2017). This theory would explain if the
4

learners of Grade 11 STEM has enough knowledge on Mathematics specifically of

General Mathematics and Statistics and Probability that would help them while

taking Physics in Grade 12.

Statement of the Problem

1) What are the study habits of Grade 11 STEM learners that affect their:

2) What are the time management skills of the Grade 11 STEM learners?

3) What is the level of competence of the Grade 11 STEM learners in terms of the

subjects:

a) General Mathematics

b) Statistics and Probability

4) Based on the results, how ready are the Grade 11 STEM learners to take up

Physics subject in Grade 12?

Significance of the Study

The significance of the study is its prospective benefit in the future. It aims to

know the readiness of the Grade 11 students under the STEM strand in Ateneo de

Davao Senior High School for Physics, an applied and specialized STEM subject

in Grade 12. In this way, the study is significant because it is beneficial to the

students taking up STEM, the Physics teachers in Grade 12 and for future

researchers. The study is beneficial because it will let the teachers and the

administration know how ready and prepared the Grade 11 taking up STEM are

ready for Physics. It would help them adjust; this means they would know whether

they would start with the basics because the students might had no background
5

on Physics in Grade 11 or stick to their own teaching styles even though it would

involve directly teaching the lesson without teaching the basics first. With a good

background in studying Physics, Senior High School learners that will take

Engineering or any science related Physics course might not have difficulty in the

subject. They can adjust easily and can deal with different Physics problems. This

study is also significant for future researchers if they choose to elaborate this

study more and find problems and put action to it.

Scope and Delimitation

This study aims to know the readiness of the Grade 11 STEM students of

the Ateneo de Davao University Senior High School regarding on the subject

Physics. The study will be conducted due to the struggles of the Grade 12

students in Physics and wanting to find out if the Grade 11 STEM students can

handle the rigors of the said subject, especially those who will take the

Pre-Science and Pre-Engineering and Architecture track by Grade 12. Thus, all

the topics that don’t involve Physics, study habits, time management and levels of

knowledge will not be discussed.

The researchers will interview Grade 11 STEM students of Ateneo de

Davao University only. Hence, college students of the said university and students

from other universities are not included.

The strength of this study is that we can see if the Grade 11 STEM learners

have the capacity and potential to tackle the subject, regardless of previous

learning. The researchers want to know if their methods could be a factor of

6

understanding the subject, may it be study habits, time management or levels of

knowledge. The weakness of this study would probably be time and location,

since the timeline of the process is compressed, and it may seem rushed. Another

weakness is time constraints of the Grade 11 and Grade 12 due to busy schedules

and the location since the Grade 11 are at the Bangkal campus while the Grade 12

are in the Roxas campus.

The researchers will use purposive sampling method which will involve

STEM learners from Ateneo de Davao University Senior High School. The data

gathering will be in quantitative method through surveys and will be conducted

within the said university from November 2018 to January 2019.

CHAPTER 2

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

In this chapter, the researchers will discuss the related literature regarding the

research entitled A Descriptive Study: The Readiness of Grade 11 AdDU SHS

STEM students in taking Grade 12 Physics. This includes the study habits of the

learners, time management of the students and the capacity or level of knowledge

of the secondary learners. The literature that can be found in this section will give

an overview of the topic and help the researchers venture through this research.

Thus, help in developing the ideas of the researchers that they chose to delve into

and the ideas from the literature will help the researchers improve the study.

Study Habits of Learners

Study Habits contributes a significant role for the academic performance of a

learner. It is essential to have techniques for studying to improve and do well in

studies. According to a research conducted by Aadenan, Hamdan & Makhtar

(2017), academic performance is successful when all elements of studying

including study habits plays a role in a good manner. They mentioned that study

habits should have variety or different techniques to be able to achieve good

academic performance. This will help the students develop their creativity skills

and be more experienced in studying. In relation to Physics, the researchers of the

study mentioned that basic knowledge in Physics contributes well to do good in

the subject and study habits contributes into it. Study habits should be planned
8

well to do good in Physics (Khan and Siddiqui, 2016). These study habits include

practicing solving mathematical problems which is deemed to be necessary

according to the University of Rhode Islands (n.d.), having a regular study time

can also help even just for studying an hour per day (Pitts, 2011), Note-taking aids

student learning by allowing individuals to process and retain large amounts of

information (Boyle & Forchelli, 2017)

Time Management of Secondary school learners

A study conducted by Nasrullah & Khan (2015) about the relationship

between time management and academic performance concluded that both are

highly related to each other, their research shows that students who are thriving in

academics are good in managing their time. As said by Choudhari (2012), when

your goal is to be good at physics you have to learn how to manage your time well

for it is the key and the most important part for students in Physics. Since student

time is regarded as a limit source, they should be effectively managed. The

differences of how learners manage their time directly correlates to how much

they achieve in school. The true challenge of being a student is not just passing, it

is also about how you manage your time and maintain composure in the midst of

all the pressure. Studying in Physics is indeed requires time, according to the

University of Rhode Island (n.d.), an hour in class needs two (2) to three (3) out of

class effort that is why it is encouraged to focus on hard topics first so that you still

have a lot of energy in dealing with it (wikiHow, 2019). Managing your time well by

reviewing your notes before an exam will help you retain knowledge (Ruff, 2018).

It was also emphasized by The New Times Rwanda (2017) that we miss good
9

opportunities in school just because we did not managed out time well. It was also

stated that students who got poor scores does not mean that they are weak, but

because they did not plan the right time to do their school works. Therefore, it

implicitly says that adept time management improves grades, student attitudes

and participation in school. According to Campbell and Svenson (1992), as cited

by Makaweba and Ncagekoba (2016), proper time management is priceless for

academic success. It is the ability to set out priorities, placing more emphasis on

important tasks and retaining your focus. This means that if the students know

how to manage their time it is more likely for them to perform well in Physics and

have a good grade in this subject. Those literature mentioned strengthen the fact

that time management is indeed a necessity for the Grade 11 students if they don’t

want to have a hard time dealing with the subject.

Level of Competence of Grade 11 STEM learners to take Physics in Grade 12

In studying Physics, just like any other subjects, has prerequisites upon

learning. A student must have knowledge on how to make their way through the

mathematical problems, one must have analyse all the problems given to them

and they must be critical thinkers (Pitts, 2011). It was said to be that in Physics,

students have to manage not time alone but also the mathematical formulas and

how to play with it to have a right answer (Leyden, 2014). This means that General

Mathematics can help prepare them in the problems Physics might throw at them

in the 12th Grade. When it comes to Statistics and Probability however, it will only

come in to use when they are in the concept of thermodynamics, though they

might not have to delve into it deeply it might come in handy because the results
10

into this one can be interpreted statistically and it can help a lot if your goal is to

pursue a career in Physics (Kerrigan, 2018 & Reiland, 2018). In line with this, we

also included their grade in both subjects in our data gathering for it will be useful

in strengthening our claim if they indeed may do well in physics or not. With good

knowledge in Mathematics, one can be competent in Physics.

CHAPTER 3

METHODOLOGY

This chapter provides an outline of the research methodology used to

answer the research questions that comprises the research design, the sample,

the instruments, the data collection, data analysis, and its ethical consideration.

Research Design

In this research, we are going to utilize the quantitative approach because the

researchers are going to delve into measuring the preparedness of Grade 11

STEM students with use of numbers and statistics. For that reason, quantitative

approach best fits the study for it focuses on collecting numerical data and use it to

generalise it as a group to expound a certain phenomenon (Babbie, 2010). The

research is a descriptive study which is totally suitable for the chosen study given

that it is time efficient and it aims to gather quantifiable data that will be used to

analyse the respondents statistically (Center for Innovation in Research and

Teaching, n.d.). A descriptive research design is defined as a research method

that describes the characteristics of the population or phenomenon that is being

studied. This methodology focuses more on the “what” of the research subject

rather than the “why”. Quantitative approach is attempting to collect quantifiable

information to be used for statistical analysis of the population sample. It is a

popular market research that allows to collect and describe the nature of the

demographic statement (Question Pro, 2018)

12

The Sample

In identifying the respondents of the study, the researchers will have a total

number of forty (40) respondents from Grade 11 SHS STEM Ateneo de Davao

Senior High School students. We arrived to this sample with the research

conducted by Ali (2010) saying that thirty (30) up to five hundred (500)

respondents is already sufficient enough for quantitative research (Altunisik et al.,

2004. S. 125). Ateneo de Davao University - Senior High School Bangkal Campus

will be the venue of the research. The chosen respondents will be the Grade 11

STEM learners who will be the taking Physics subject in Grade 12 the result of the

study will determine the preparedness of students in Grade 12 Physics. The

reason why the researchers choose Grade 11 STEM learners is that these STEM

learners will take Physics in Grade 12 because other strands doesn’t offer Physics

in their curriculum or strand.

The Instruments

This descriptive quantitative study will conduct interviews which will use

survey questionnaires. The respondents’ answers to the questions on the survey

questionnaires play a huge part on analysing data. This is why survey

questionnaires are commonly used on Descriptive researches. According to Bhat

(n.d), descriptive research is widely used to help the prevailing condition and

underlying patterns of the research. The survey questionnaires will serve as the

storage of data for this study. The survey questionnaires will also let people see
13

the point of view of the learners. In addition, the Center for Innovation in Research

and Teaching [CIRT] (n.d.), survey questionnaires are better than any other

instrument on quantitative data analysis because surveys can reach much more

participants which can lead to collecting more amount of data. This study will have

survey questionnaire as a tool on gathering information from the respondents

since survey questionnaires reflect so much of the respondents’ views, opinions

and experiences. The researchers will make sure that each of the survey

questionnaires will have a certain respondent’s section written to ensure

credibility. The research instrument will be researcher made instead of modified or

adopted because the researchers will use descriptive statistics and Ateneo de

Davao University has different approach in teaching Physics and some lessons of

General Mathematics or Statistics and Probability may not be available in other

schools. The measurements that will be used is the weighted mean. To compute

for the readiness of the learners the researchers made a range from the total

weighted mean of all SOPs to determine the readiness of Grade 11 STEM

learners in taking Grade 12 Physics next school year. The range would be from

0.1-1.0, 1.1-2.0, 2.1-3.0 and 3.1-4.0 the following verbal interpretations of the

range would be totally not ready, not ready, ready and totally ready. The strength

of using research instrument that is researcher made is that it is exclusive to the

AdDU community and learner respondents can easily comprehend the research

itself. But, the weakness of it is that the results of this study is not that strong and

needs concrete evidence in order to prove that the research instrument was

correct and transparent.

14

Data Collection

In quantitative research, data collection is data is gathered through conducting

a survey. The most common method or process used in gathering qualitative

research data is survey questionnaires The data collection procedure will start off

by writing and sending a letter of consent by the researchers to the Office of the

Assistant Director for Academics to inform them about the background and scope

of the study and as to why the researchers are conducting this study. Additionally,

the researchers want to make sure that they understand the wholeness of this

study. Second, the researchers would select Grade 11 STEM students from

Ateneo de Davao University - Senior High School who would agree to be

surveyed. There would be a brief introduction to the research which will include

the aim and objective. They will have the freedom to abstain or not. It is important

for the researchers to know if the ones being selected are willing and interested to

answer the survey questions. Regarding this, we prepared a set of survey

questions that will assess the preparedness of Grade 11 STEM students in taking

Grade 12 Physics. The results of the given surveys will serve as the basis for our

conclusions for our study. After gathering the data, the researchers will tabulate

the results to ensure transparency of the study, the results will be accurate and

legitimate. Once all the said steps were done, the analysis of data will follow, and

the conclusions will be based on the results of the study.

In a quantitative research, data can be stored in many ways like original

hard paper copies, computer files, or photocopies (Li-Chen, n.d.). In our research,

we will utilize the original hard paper copies and computer files to store the data
15

gathered. We decided to do the two ways of storing data for us to be able to

retrieve and have a back-up copy in case of future loss or deterioration.

Data Analysis

In a descriptive study, the data will be analyzed with the use of descriptive

statistics. According to Trochim (2006) as cited by the Web Center for Social

Research Methods (n.d.), unlike inferential statistics, descriptive statistics is just

depicting what the data shows and illustrates the basic qualities of the data in a

study. In addition to that, descriptive statistics are numbers that sum up the

information gathered with the desire of showing what transpired in the sample

(Thompson, 2009). The use of tables, graphs, and general discussions may be

utilized in this study in order for the readers to be analyze the data better. The

desciptive statistics that will be used in the study is the Weighted Mean that will get

the average number of response that the respondents answered.

Ethical Consideration

The researchers have considered the ethical standards for this study, basing it

from the Belmont Report, and it highlights three ethical conducts of research: right

to life/respect of persons, beneficence and justice for the participants.

Right to Life

On the standard of respect of persons, the participants are autonomous, and

they are entitled to additional protections. In addition to that, the participants’

answers will be confidential to ensure privacy. Before the researchers give the
16

participants the questionnaire, the researchers have to ask permission from a

supervised person. As much as they wanted all participants to answer the

questionnaire, they are not forcing them to answer, they can deny or accept but it

is better if they are willing to answer, which the data we attain from them would be

complete help on the researchers’ part.

Benefience

For beneficence, the top priority is the awareness of the welfare of the

research participants. From the study, it will not bring harm to the participants

since the method of acquiring data is through a survey questionnaire, which is

important, and that it benefits the participants and the study in general.

Justice

For justice, the researchers ensure that the data gathered for the research will

not be altered or filled up if the participant forgot to fill lacking items or they don’t

want to answer specifically. The participants will also be fair in the process of

acquiring data.
CHAPTER 4

PRESENTATION OF RESULTS, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF

DATA

In this chapter, we will be showing the data and results of the study with

respect to the statement of the problem both in a tabular and textual presentation.

These results will be discussed and presented with the use of necessary literature

to back up the responses of the respondents.

The Study Habits of Grade 11 STEM Learners

It shows in the Table 1 that the weighted mean of the senior high school STEM

students who have a regular study time, who do not procrastinate their study, plan

their study, and practice solving mathematical problems ranges from 2.63 to 2.95

which mean they often do the statements mentioned. According to Pitts (2011),

studying an hour a day for a week is better than studying seven (7) hours in a day.

His blog on how to succeed in physics courses stated that it is necessary to have

a regular study time and don’t procrastinate. It was also said that practicing how to

solve these problems can help you to do good in physics (The University of Rhode

Island, n.d.). Based on the results, the students always review and rewrite their

notes, being the only one to make it in the 3-line mark with 3.25 weighted mean.

Note-taking aids student learning by allowing individuals to process and retain

large amounts of information (Boyle and Forchelli, 2017). All in all, the total

weighted mean of all the sub-parts about the study habits of the students is 2.88

which means they often do these habits when they are studying.

you still have more energy, just like how we should focus on hard topics first when

studying in physics so that you can find more ways to interact with you’re learning

and big chances of staying active while you are doing your task and absorb what

you are learning (wikiHow, 2019). However, the remaining sub-part, they just do it

in an often manner, their weighted mean ranger from 2.6 to 3. According to Ruff

(2018), reviewing your notes before an exam will help you cement your knowledge

about the topic, although it is highly encouraged to do it in a daily basis. As a

whole, it has a total weighted mean of 2.86. The other sub-part of our second

statement of the problem is the time spent by the students studying when there is
19

an exam, quiz, and ETs all in all and it was known that they are maximizing an

average of 5.45 hours. Every hour of class time requires two (2) to three (3) out of

The Level of Competence of Grade 11 STEM Students in terms of the

subjects General Mathematics and Statistics & Probability

Table 3 represents that the Grade 11 students have a weighted mean of 3.03

in General Mathematics topics which means that their mathematical knowledge

are competent. This claim was also strengthened by the 90.93 total average grade
20

of all the respondents in General Mathematics which is considered above average

in the report card. It is really necessary that students should study mathematics

alongside physics for this can help improving their skill on how to manage

formulas and concepts for we all know that physics is a subject that is always

incorporated with many mathematical elements (Leyden, 2014). Next is the

competency of students on the topics in Statistics and Probability, same result

was produced. They’re competent when it comes to this subject as well as having

a total general average of 91.68 which is considered also as above average.

However, statistics and probability will not be going to be as useful as general

mathematics until it comes to thermodynamics. Our modern understanding of

thermodynamic systems is forged through statistical mechanics, for some

quantities can be defined only through statistical methods on microscopic

properties of single particles (Kerrigan, 2018). It will come in handy if you will

choose a career for physics where you will generate experimental results that

must be interpreted statistically (Reiland, 2018).

The Readiness of Grade 11 STEM Students in Taking Grade 12 Physics

We strategically formulate positive study habit statements and the weighted

mean of the responses of the students is 2.88 which means they often do these

helpful habits when they study. According to Aadenan, Hamdan & Makhtar (2017),

when all of the elements of studying is done in a good manner, academic success

of the students will not that hard to be achieved. Khan and Siddiqui (2016) said

that study habits are necessary and should be well planned if you want to be good

in Physics and it was reflected on the data that was gathered that they are doing

well in keeping their study habits on the right track. It was shown in the Table 4 that

they “often manage” their time well, it was said by Choudhari (2012), that when
22

studying physics, one should learn how to budget their time well. This gives a

glimpse of what lies ahead with the students who are according to the gathered

data manage their time well, even the study conducted by Nasrullah & Khan

(2015) stated that time management and academic performance are directly

proportional to one another. Even The New Times Rwanda (2017) and Campbell

and Svenson (1992), as cited by Makaweba and Ncagekoba (2016) agreed that

time management can play a role if your goal is to have a good grade in Physics.

Their level of competence was also measure through their knowledge on the

topics and grades on General Mathematics and Statistics and Probability, it was

also seen that they are proven competent in this fields according to the data that

we gathered from them. According to Pitts (2011) physics requires a logical

thinking and good foundation and understanding of fundamental concepts and

application of mathematics to solve the given physics problems. He also added

that even though math is considered as the “backbone of physics” but there are

differences between the two, he explained it by saying that in math we are given

an equation and we should solve it, in physics, however, we are given an

information and it is up to us to find the equation and solve it. As a whole, the study

habits, time management skills, and the level of competence of students

generated a total weighted mean of 2.93 and therefore we can conclude that the

Grade 11 STEM students are ready to take Grade 12 Physics.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

In this chapter, the researchers will give the summary of findings of the

research. The researchers will also suggest recommendations through an action

plan that will help the learners, administration of AdDU SHS and the Physics

teachers in order to make Grade 12 Physics an effective subject.

Summary of Findings

The focus of this study is to determine the readiness of Grade 11 STEM

learners of Ateneo de Davao University- Senior High School in taking Grade 12

Physics. Physics is one of the main subjects in Grade 12 STEM and it is a very

essential subject when learners will proceed to college if they want to proceed

Engineering or Science related courses.

The purpose of this study is that it can address certain lapses if there is one

to be found and make the system of the school better for the students and make

Physics an easier subject for them. It can also address the level of preparedness

of students to Physics.

The research approach was quantitative research in a pure descriptive

approach. The research population was 40 Grade 11 STEM learners who are

studying in AdDU SHS

The Study Habits of Grade 11 STEM Learners

The findings revealed that the study habits of the respondents are they

study often. It received a weighted mean of 2.88. The respondents answered often

because it received a weighted mean range of 2.63 - 2.95 in the sections of

25

regular study time, do not procrastinate when studying, planning their study and

practicing solving mathematical problems. One survey question received an

always verbal interpretation, it has a weighted mean of 3.25. That section is that

they rewrite and review their notes.

Majority of the respondents indicated that they have an often good study

habit. It is therefore clear that study might be ready in taking Grade 12 Physics

next school year.

Time Management Skills of the Grade 11 STEM learners

The time management skills determine if a learner to balance his/her

studying. The results revealed that they have a good time management skills with

the average weighted mean of 2.86 and a verbal interpretation of often. The

respondents also respond often in the following questions namely: spend my

vacant time studying, study before I go to bed, review before the ET or exam and

maximizing their time by studying during weekends by having a weighted mean

ranging from 2.6-3.00 respectively. One question which states that they focus on

hard topics when studying received a mean of 3.13 and an always verbal

interpretation. It is also revealed that they have an average of 5.45 hours in

studying during quizzes, exams or ETs.

Majority of the respondents indicated that their time management skills are

good. Based on the findings of the research, it is clear that the respondents have a

good time management skills and it might be a very essential skill in taking

Physics.

The Level of Competence of Grade 11 STEM Students in terms of the

subjects General Mathematics and Statistics & Probability

The results revealed that level of competence of Grade 11 STEM learners

in General Mathematics and Statistics and Probability are both competent with an

average weighted mean of 3.03 and 3.05 respectively. This means that Grade 11

STEM learner respondents have a competent understanding regarding

Mathematics that may help solve Physics related problems next school year. Their

grade average in both subjects are above average. This means that they have

enough mathematical skills that may be essential in Physics. But, this does not

mean that having a higher grade means having a good chance to take Physics

easily.

With the given the results, the researchers concluded that the learner

respondents are competent in Math related subjects.

The Readiness of Grade 11 STEM Students in Taking Grade 12 Physics

This section finally determines the readiness of Grade 11 STEM learners in

taking Physics in Grade 12. With the following results of computed weighted mean

of 2.88 in study habits, 2.86 in time management skills and 3.04 in level of

competence. The capacity of Grade 11 STEM learners in taking Grade 12 Physics

is they are READY, with an average weighted mean of 2.93. This signifies that

they are capable to take the subject and with their knowledge about Physics they

are ready to take the subject.
