Box Plot Graphic Organizer 1
Box Plot Graphic Organizer 1
For this activity, you will be asked to use a random number generator to give you
a random set of data. You will then be expected to calculate the 5-number
summary, the IQR, any outliers, the mode, mean, variance, and standard
deviation. You must do so by filling out this sequence table. Start by labeling the
table in steps in which you will complete in order. Think about what your first step
would be at approaching this problem, and then how that step could help you
solve the next one. You may choose to use the same order I did in the example, or
you can order in any way you think will benefit you most. Must work individually,
and everybody must have their own data set.
First, use this generator to create a data set. Set “how many random numbers?”
to any value between 7-12. Set “minimum value” to 0000. Set “maximum value”
to 100. Set “allow duplicate entries” to true. And hit calculate. Then copy the
values down and begin your table.
No matter the order you choose to calculate your values, be sure to specifically
label the step you are on, define how to calculate, and show your work on how
you got your solution. Although it can be in any order, it must flow from top to
bottom in some sort of sequence (I.e. You wouldn’t find the standard deviation
before the mean considering you need to know the value of the mean first before
solving for SD.) 13 steps is also just a suggestion, if you can organize your thinking
into less steps or if you need a couple more, feel free to add or subtract steps to
your graphic organizer.
When you get to drawing the boxplot, I prefer you hand draw it rather than
finding an online tool to do so. Please graph and label the boxplot and then
upload and paste it in the space provided.
