KYRIE: (Sung)

Send us the wings of new birth; fill all the earth with the
love. You have taught us; Let all creation now be shaken
with love. (Response)
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 12: 3 – 13
A reading from the first letter of Paul to the
Corinthians.
Therefore, I tell you that nobody speaking by the
Spirit of God says’ “Jesus be accursed.” and no one
can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
There are different kinds of Spiritual gifts but the
same Spirit; there are different forms of service but
the same God who produces all of them in everyone.
To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is
given for some benefit. To one is given through the
Spirit the expression of Wisdom; to another the
expression of knowledge according to the same
Spirit; to another gift of healing by the one Spirit; to
another mighty deed; to another prophecy; to another
discernment of Spirits; to another variety of tongues;
to another interpretation of tongues. But one and the
same Spirit produces all of these, distributing them
individually to each person as He wishes. As the
body is one though it has many parts, and all the
parts of the body, though many, are one body, so
also Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into
one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free
persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit.
The Word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

his holy Church.

love; may he bless you, keep you one in
faith and love and bring you to the joy of
God’s kingdom.

PRACTICAL POINTS
1.Choose a good Catholic for your sponsor. You
also have to select the name of another Saint for
Confirmation (not the one you had for Baptism).
2.The Holy Spirit comes into your soul more fully
when you are confirmed. He brings to your soul
His Seven Gifts, which are: Wisdom,
Understanding, Knowledge, Counsel, Fortitude,
Piety and Fear of the Lord.
3.A dying parishioner may receive Confirmation
from his pastor if the Bishop cannot be reached
in time.
The Confirmation is a continuation and “completion
of baptismal grace,” according to the Catechism.
While baptism can be performed by a priest,
confirmation is performed by a bishop. The anointing
with oil not only symbolizes a cleansing and healing
but serves as a “seal of the Holy Spirit.”
While the confirmed receive many benefits as a result
– uniting us with Christ more fully, bonding us with
the Church – it gives us a special power. According
to St. Thomas Aquinas as quoted in the Catechism
“the confirmed person received the power to profess
faith in Christ publicly and, as it were, officially.”
Being confirmed is a serious step within the Church.
As such, I spoke with one young woman who was
confirmed recently regarding her feelings both before
and after she received this sacrament.
“I didn’t think it would make much difference to me. I
didn’t think I would feel much spiritually different,”
said Monique Wilkins. So what about her feelings
afterward? “I felt really happy…I realized it’s a big
part of me and a big part of my life,” she said. “I
didn’t think I would be as touched by the Spirit as I
was kneeling there…I’m glad.”
