For all problems, α = 0.05. Show screenshots from JMP as needed

This document contains instructions for three homework problems involving analysis of variance (ANOVA). Problem 3.18 involves analyzing the effect of four different coatings on television tube conductivity. Problem 3.25 examines whether four chemists differ in their measurements of methyl alcohol percentage. Problem 3.30 asks to determine if five batches of raw materials differ in calcium content. The problems require showing ANOVA results in JMP and testing differences between means using methods like Tukey's HSD test.

For all problems, α = 0.05. Show screenshots from JMP as needed.

3.18. A manufacturer of television sets is

Coating Conductivity
interested in the effect of tube conductivity of
four different types of coating for color picture 1 143 141 150 146
tubes. A completely randomized experiment is 2 152 149 137 143
conducted and conductivity data are obtained 3 134 136 132 127
(refer to table). 4 129 127 132 129
a) Is there a difference in conductivity due to coating type?
b) Estimate the overall mean and the treatment effects.
c) Test all pairs of means using Tukey’s HSD method. Which coating(s) is/are different?
e) Which coating produces the highest conductivity? Indicate the method/test used to come up
with your answer.
f) Assuming that coating type 4 is currently in use, what are your recommendations to the
manufacturer? We wish to minimize conductivity.
g) Parameterize the “effects” model appropriately and estimate the parameters.

3.25 Four chemists are asked to determine the percentage of methyl alcohol in a certain
chemical compound. Each chemist makes three Chemist % of Methyl Alcohol
determinations, and the results are the following: 1 84.99 84.04 84.38
(a) Do chemists differ significantly? Use alpha= 0.05
2 85.15 85.13 84.88
(b) Analyze the residuals from the experiment.
3 84.72 84.48 85.16
(c) Will it be appropriate to conduct a comparison of
4 84.20 84.10 84.55
means test, eg Tukey’s HSD? Why or why not?

3.30. A manufacturer suspects that the batches of raw materials furnished by his supplier differ
significantly in calcium content. There are a large number of batches currently in the
warehouse. Five of these are randomly selected for study. A chemist makes five determinations
on each batch and obtains the following data:
(a) Is there significant difference variation in calcium content from batch to batch?
(b) Estimate the treatment effects. Batch 1 Batch 2 Batch 3 Batch 4 Batch 5
(c) If you are to choose the batch with 23.46 23.59 23.51 23.28 23.29
the highest calcum content, which 23.48 23.46 23.64 23.40 23.46
batch would you choose? 23.56 23.42 23.46 23.37 23.37
(d) Analyze the residuals from this 23.39 23.49 23.52 23.46 23.32
experiment. Are the ANOVA 23.40 23.50 23.49 23.39 23.38
assumptions satisfied?
