WRC-107 Lifting Lugs - Vert. Vessel Horz. Lift

This document outlines the 14 step procedure for performing WRC-107 calculations for lifting lugs on a vertical vessel using horizontal lifting. The steps include: 1) noting vessel data from analysis software, 2) opening the software, 3) selecting lifting lug design, 4) choosing the WRC 107/FEA analysis type, 5) providing lug geometry and vessel data, 6) calculating loads, moments, and stresses in tables, 7) saving the file, 8) analyzing it, and 9) checking if the results pass or fail WRC-107 standards. The goal is to iteratively modify the lug geometry until a passing result is achieved.

PROCEDURE OF WRC-107 CALCULATIONS FOR LIFTING LUGS

(Vertical vessel)
Horizontal lift

VC= Circumferential Shear

Step 1 Note values from output file of PVElite, as shown below.

Import data from PV elite

Step 2 Open PVElite

Step 3 In PV Elite, Click this button -->

(To start design of lifting lug)

Step 4 A new window "COADE CALC" will open, Go to Step 4

As Shown Below:

File name:493102512.xls

Step 5 Go to 'Analysis'→'Choose Analysis type'→'WRC 107 / FEA'

As shown below in sketch

Step 6 A new window will open. Click " +" new Item button

Step 7 Give Description of item, select attachment type as "Rectangular" & select "solid" in
Hollow or Solid box

File name:493102512.xls

Step 8 Also give dimensions of rectangular attachment by clicking ">>" button infront of Attachment type box
window. If there is any pad attached also give its dimension.

Step 9 In Vessel provide data for Vessel from Datasheet or PVElite output file.

File name:493102512.xls

Step 10 A Provide values in input cells in table 1 & take value of weight from step 1

Input Cell

Output Cells

Weight of Empty Vessel W = 54000 N

Impact Factor (generally 1.5) I = 1.5
Design Lifting Load (Total) WxI F = 81000 N
No. of Lifting Lugs n = 2
Table 1
Thickness of lifting lug T = 10 mm
Length of lifting lug from centre of hole to center of weld line d = 55 mm
Thickness of pad Tp = 10 mm
Half of the circumferential angle between Lugs. ө = 30 deg.

Load per Lug F/n = 40500 N

IN HORIZONTAL LIFTING
Radial Load, P = 0.05 x F / n = 2025 N
Longitudinal Shear, VL = 0.05 x F / n = 2025 N
Circumferential Shear, VC = F / n = 40500 N

MOMENT CALCULATIONS (In Horizontal Lifting)

Longitudinal Moment, ML = Pd + VL (Tp + T/2) = 141750 N-mm
Circumferential Moment, MC = VC (Tp + T/2) = 607500 N-mm
Torsional Moment, MT = VC d = 2227500 N-mm

Step 10 B In Load provide values from Step 10A.

Step 11 Save your file at required location.

Step 12 Analyze

Step 13 Read at end of Report (as below)

Step 14 If Results are Fail go to Step 8 and try again with different geometric specifications.
Unless you get "Passed" message
