Lesson 1

Adult Questions
Genesis 1:1-25

Focus Verse
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” – Genesis 1:1
FIRST DAY: Read the notes and the references.
1. Use this space to record how you have seen God’s activity during the week. (How has He provided, answered,
comforted, reconciled, guided, etc.?)

2. What from the notes, lecture, or thoughts about the Genesis study impacted you most in the past week?

God transforms His people through faith. God puts us in community to challenge and support one another.
Your story will help others. Their stories will help you. Together, you will grow to know God better
and learn how good it is to live by faith in His Word.
Believers do not make God’s light shine; they let His light shine. Our intimacy with God and His Spirit’s
work within us yields actions that please and give Him glory.

In a world that screams chaos and confusion, God provides an unshakeable foundation for those who
believe Him.

SECOND DAY: Read Genesis 1:1-2.

God created the heavens and the earth.
3. What do these verses reveal about God and creation?

world did not create itself or come about by chance. It was created by God who, by definition, is eternal
and has always been.
This tells me that God used no pre-existing material to create the earth.
The Holy Spirit begins every work of creation

4. What most intrigues you in these verses?

What intrigues me in the verses is everything in this world started with GOD,
God never created the world in vain, He created it for His glory

THIRD DAY: Read Genesis 1:3-13.

God began creating earth’s attributes.
5. What did God create and name on the first through third days?

1. God created the light and called it day.

2. God created the vault “sky”
3. God created the dry land and seas, He also created vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees

6. What are the possible ways to define “day”? Which one seems most plausible to you? (See Exodus 20:11; 2
Peter 3:8 and other Scriptures you may know for help.)

The word day has a supernatural aspect. God Himself is the light of the day.
Genesis tells us that light, day, and night each existed before the sun and the moon were created on the
fourth day

7. What phrases are repeated?

God said, Let there be, And there was evening, and there was morning

8. What do you learn about God and creation from these verses?

God is orderly, God is might His words are never in vain

FOURTH DAY: Read Genesis 1:14-25.

God called the lights and animals into existence.
9. How did God fill the earth on the fourth through sixth days?

1. He created the lights in the sky to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from
darkness.
2. He created living creatures in the waters and the birds of the sky and God blessed them and said,
“Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the
earth.”
3. Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that
move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind

10. How does the light in verse 3 compare with the lights on the fourth day?

The light in verse 3 is God’s glorious light, as in God Himself, The light on the fourth day to mark sacred
times, and days and years, and to govern the day and the night

11. What conclusions do you make from the repeated phrase “and God saw that it was good”?

God knows what is good. He knows what is good and organizes His creation to result in something good.
This world was only good until man was placed upon it, But it was made very good again when Jesus said
on the cross “It is finished” meaning the work of redemption is complete

12. What makes it hard to believe there is a Creator God?

Pride, People want to run their own lives, and they don’t want anyone—especially God—to interfere with
the way they’re living. They want to be in control of everything they do, and they know that if they were to
believe in God, they’d have to change their lifestyle. Instead of living by their own list of what’s right and
wrong, they’d have to take seriously God’s moral standards.

15. What is the most surprising or challenging thing you discovered this week?

1. During this week study surprisingly, I have discovered The Sun, Moon and stars are not original
source of light. The Light is God Himself.

command
