Assignment 1
1. Write a 200 word essay about your expectation of the course.

Writing is a huge part of my life, both as a person and a student. I have been
writing since I was a child, starting with simple sentences then now that I am in college it
ranges from essays, position papers, reflection paper, articles, emails, and others. Now
that we are expected to take this course, I also have expectations of what I will learn in
this writing journey.
First is learning to write with a purpose, I want to learn how to properly and
professionally write emails, letters, and other professional papers. Of course, I have
written emails and letters before, but I believe that I have so much more to improve on.
Second, I anticipate learning new techniques in regards to appropriate outline and
contents with writing my paper. Then, I want to be able to properly critique others paper,
not only to help them but also for me to efficient and effective in working with the paper.
Last but not the least is to learn the ethics, and professionalism of communication.
I will be part of the labor force once I graduate from college and I look forward to
enhancing my communication skills in terms of writing.

2. Give the 7C's of writing and its function.


 Completeness:
The message of the sender should be complete, it must have all the facts
and information needed in order for the receiver to fully understand it and
avoid confusion.
 Conciseness:
The number of words used in the message should be considered. Using of
excessive and needless words must be avoided
 Consideration:
Considerate the educational level, and other aspect of the receiver in order
to have an effective communication. Respect is a must.
 Clarity:
Use of concrete and appropriate words is a must. The message should
emphasize on its goal for it to be understood easier.
 Concreteness:
It implies clear communication rather than blurry. It should also be
supported with facts and figures in order for it to not be misinterpreted.
 Courtesy:
The sender must treat the receiver with respect, politeness, sincere and
enthusiastic.
 Correctness
The correct usage of language and no grammatical error on the message.
3. Give the Principles of Technical Writing from Purpose to Product.
The following are the principles of technical writing:
 Content
To develop a paper with quality, the content must answer who, what, why, when
and how.
 Audience
Who will read the document? What is their background? Language? Education?
 Organization/Structure
The organization or structure gives a pattern that could help the reader
comprehend the letter. Examples of pattern are chronologically, categorially and
spatially.
 Style
This is where the writer uses a style depending on who they are addressing,
formal or informal.
 Accessibility
Where the readers could access the information intended for them
 Purpose
This is where the writer should know what he wants to accomplish. It could be the
following:
o Inform
o Suggest
o Order
o Reply
o Instruct
o Suggest
Here are some of the products of technical writing and its purpose.
 Business Letter: to transact
 Technical Report: to provide information about a specific program or project.
 Proposal: to suggest plans, projects, programs and termination of projects.
 Memorandum: to disseminate information to workers within the company.
 Contract Agreement: formal agreement between two or more parties.
