This document provides instructions for an electronics lab activity on basic differential and summing amplifiers. Students are asked to simulate two circuits using op-amps: 1) a differential amplifier with inputs vin1 and vin2 and 2) a summing amplifier with inputs vin1 and vin2. For each circuit, students measure the output vo under different input conditions and document their results. They are to explain and comment on what they observe. The goal is for students to understand how differential and summing amplifiers work through computer simulation and analysis of their output measurements.

EEL 3303L-ELECTRONICS I LAB

Second ACTIVITY: Basic Differential Amplifier and Summing Amplifier.

Please do the computer simulations before or after the lab (it’s recommended that you do them
before).

1- Set up the following circuits with the Op-Amp properly biased.

R2

R1

Ra Vo
Rb

v (t) v (t)
in1 _ in2

Measure and tabulate vo for the following conditions

1. vin1(t) ≈ vin2(t)
2. vin1(t) ≈ 0v and vin2(t) = 0v
3. vin1(t) ≈ V1 (dc voltage) and vin2(t) = Vm sin (wt)

4. vin1(t) ≈ V2 (dc voltage) and vin2(t) = ௔మ , a > 0

Briefly explain and comment your results

2- Set up the following circuits with the Op-Amp properly biased.

R1 Rf

v (t) _
in1

R2 Vo
v (t)
in2

Measure and tabulate vo for the following conditions

1. vin1(t) ≈ vin2(t) and R1 = R2 = Rf

2. vin1(t) ≈ 2vin2(t) and R1 = R2 = Rf
3. vin1(t) ≈ vin2(t) and R1 = R2 and Rf = 2R1
4. vin1(t) ≈ 2vin2(t) and R1 = R2 and Rf = 2R1

Briefly explain and comment your results

Write a brief summary of today activities. Remember to keep your records and own
comments in your lab notebook.
