My Back Off Procedures

1. Ensure the string is torqued correctly and set slips above the calculated weight to the top of the stuck point. 2. Apply an initial 2 turns of left hand torque while working the pipe between set weight limits. 3. Reset slips and apply additional left hand torque in increments, working the pipe within weight limits and checking that all torque is transmitted downhole.

General Back Off Procedures

( If applicable use weights recorded prior to getting stuck )

1. Ensure that the string has been correctly torqued to the right.
2. Set slips above up wt ( 30k +/- depending upon initial wts, otherwise calculate
the weight to the top of the stuck point – buoyed weight ) – use a free point
indicator if possible.
3. Work in initial 2 turns of left hand torque or 2000ft/lbs +/-, pull slips & work
pipe between 20k/30k below down wt to 80k/100k above up wt. ( when
shallow never go below down wt )
4. If using rig tongs & not a top drive, ensure that a tong line sensor is
connected to the tong holding the back off torque.
5. Once the torque has dissipated, reset slips @ 30k/50k above up wt.
6. Work in left hand torque in one or two stages ( or in 2000ft/lbs increments ) -
@ each stage working torque between down wt ( not below ) & 80k/100k
above up wt. ( checking sensor to ensure all torque has been fully transmitted
down hole )
7. Once between 1/3 & ½ of the initial RH make up torque has been fully
transmitted down hole, hold string @ up wt to ( 5k above ) while the charge is
run in. Correlate depth to the chosen connection & fire the charge. It is
preferable to attempt the back off @ a connection which was broken previous
trip.
8. If the back off is complete, correlate the CCL & confirm the back off point.
9. If there is no positive indication, POOH with wireline & continue to work
pipe across the neutral point in order to complete back off.
10. Decisions can now be made regarding further fishing operations.
11. Notes: All weight calculations should be made using the buoyed weight.
