QUESTION 1

A converter in Figure 1 has an output voltage of 25 V when the input is 50 V. If the load
is 125 W, design a converter to limit the peak inductor current to 6.25 A. Then, determine
the value of capacitance to limit the output voltage ripple to 5%. Specify the switching
frequency (add all digits in your student ID number e.g.: TB17099, fsw = 26 kHz) and
design for a continuous inductor current.
[12 Marks]

QUESTION 2

Design a flyback converter as in Figure 2 for an input of 25 V and an output of 40 W at

40 V. If the ripple factor is limited to 2% and the current variation in magnetizing
inductance is 40% of the average current, specify:
i) the switching frequency (add all digits in your student ID number e.g.: TB17099,
fsw = 26 kHz)
ii) the transformer turns ratio
iii) the magnetizing inductance
iv) the capacitor value

QUESTION 3

Figure 3 is a square-wave inverter that has a RL load with R = 15 Ω and L = 10 mH. The
inverter output frequency is 400 Hz. Design an inverter to establish a load current that
has a fundamental frequency component of 8 A rms.
i) Determine the value of the DC source, Vdc
ii) Determine the amplitudes of the Fourier series terms for the load current and load
voltage until 7th order harmonics
iii) Determine the power absorbed by the load
