II. Content/Concept:
Prepositions show direction, position, time and, place (i.e., in, on, over, up, down,
to, with, above, below)
Prepositions can also show the relationship of one part of a sentence, or clause, to
another part of the sentence.
To show positions, direction, or a relationship, prepositions are written as
prepositional phrases
Prepositions introduce prepositional phrases (to the store, in the box, with my
friend)
Prepositional phrases help to add information and meaning to a sentence
III. Learning Activities:
A. Getting Started
Let the children read the dialogue below and tell them to notice the underlined phrases.
(All boys will read the lines of Nelly and girls for Tony)
Nelly: Hello! Good day. What are you doing?
Tony: Hi, Nelly. I am working hard with our school assignment.
Nelly: Yes, I believe so because I’ve seen how busy you are now. When will you submit it?
Tony: On Monday. Our teacher wants us to comply this on time. So I could get a good grade.
Nelly: Can we have a break for a while so we can have a little time to play badminton.
I’ll be going to the court. Some of my friends will be there at 8 o’clock.
Tony: I’m sorry, I can’t make it to play with you. I need to finish our assignment by this
morning.
Nelly: Where are you going after that?
Tony: I’ll be going to the beach very near in my Grandma’s house.
Nelly: With whom?
Tony: My cousins who just arrived from Canada. They would love to swim under the sea
water with big waves.
Nelly: Okay, I hope you will enjoy in your swimming time later.
Comprehension check-up

Let’s Remember this:
In, on, for, by and under are examples of prepositions. A phrase introduced by
preposition is called prepositional phrase.
A prepositional phrase is a group of words that begin with a preposition and ends with a
noun or pronoun as objects of preposition. Prepositional phrases tell time or place.
Here’s a list of prepositions:
