Experiment#02:: How To Measure The Resistance of A Given Resistor by Color Coding and Breadboard

This document describes an experiment to measure resistor values using color coding and by connecting resistors in series and parallel on a breadboard. The experiment involves identifying the resistance of individual resistors from their color bands, connecting them in series on a breadboard and measuring the total resistance, and connecting them in parallel and calculating the equivalent resistance. The experimental resistance measurements matched well with the theoretical calculations based on color coding and series/parallel resistance formulas.

Experiment#02:

How to measure the resistance of a given resistor by color coding and

breadboard.

 Objective:
 To find the resistance from color coding method.
 To find the resistance by series method and verify that.
 To find the resistance from the parallel and check it with theoretical calculation.

 Apparatus used:
 Breadboard
 Resistor
 Multimeter

 Theoretical background:

 Resistor:
A resistor is the passive two terminal component That implements electrical resistance as a
circuit element.

 Uses:
In electronics circuits, resistor is used to reduce current flow, adjustment signal level, to divide
voltages, bias active elements, and terminate transmission lines, among other uses.

Resistance:
The electrical resistance of an electrical conductor is a measure of the difficulty to pass an
electric current through that conductors.

Procedure:
1. First, we measure the resistance by the color band method as we have theoretical
approach.
2. For this, write corresponding value for 1st color from left side ,then write same for 2nd
color and third color value, write in power of 10 while 4th one color(silver, gold ,no color)
write in the form of ± (10 or 5) % of the 3 digits for the three color have to be write.
3. Next, we put the resistor in Bread board
4. Find the resistance across terminal in bread board using multimeter.
5. Then connect them in a series
6. Find the overall resistance of a resistors
7. Now connect the resistors in parallel and find the resistance of the resistors using
multimeter

Observation and calculation:
From color coding:
R1= 10Kohm
R2= 15Kohm
R3= 25Kohm

From multimeter:
R1= 10.9Kohm
R2= 14.7Kohm
R3= 26.6Kohm

In series:
Experimental result
Req = R1 + R2 + R3
Req=52.2kohm

1
In parallel:
Experimental result
1/Req= 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3
Req=5.07kohm

Conclusion:
 See the color of band in resistor and write the value for this color instead of another color
value.
 Noted the multimeter readings value carefully.
 Connect the resistors in bread board wisely.
