My Insight about the Video

What is Community/Public Health Nurse

We all know that nursing profession is a broad profession and in

need, leadership from nurses is needed at every level and across all
settings. There are many times when nurses, for the sake of delivering
exceptional patient and family care, must step into an advocate role with
a singular voice. Nurses must understand that their leadership is as
important to providing quality care as is their technical ability to deliver
care at the bedside in a safe and effective manner. They must lead in
improving work processes on the front lines, creating new integrated
practice models, working with others, from organizational policy makers
to state legislators, to craft practice policy and legislation and many
others that allows nurses to work to their fullest capacity, leading
curriculum changes to prepare the nursing workforce to meet community
and patient needs.
Nursing as a profession could be beneficial in everywhere thus
leadership at every level, after watching the video I found out that there
are different roles of nurses in the community not just only in the hospital
setting, there were also emerging fields of community health nursing in
the Philippines and other countries. Community Health Nursing, so from
the word itself it’s actually more on community based stations working
with populations, individuals, families and other members of the group
residing in a particular place, preserving and protecting the health and
well-being thus emphasizing and managing acute and chronic conditions
of individuals. Community health/Public nurses focus on the care of
several levels of clientele or community as a whole in many settings,
including homes, clinics, and homes. We have Maternal and Child health
Care nurses who visited new moms in their homes to make sure their
babies get off to better start and other important life skills, we have
school nurses who teach children healthy eating habits and health screens
to pick up health problems, public health nurses who work on a state or
municipal level to see what problems need to address like latest trends of
disease such as the outbreak of polio, occupational health nurses who
work on companies and hospitals that keeps employees safe of diseases,
severe injuries at work, we have home care and hospice nurses for home
care basis , we have parish nursing which combined with spiritual care,
actually there’s a lot of opportunities you can get if we are a nurse and
it’s up to us on what field might fit for us. Community health nurses
should be aware of health patterns and health indicators within their
practice, their primary functions to public health were assessment,
assurance, and policy development hence all nurses working in
community settings should develop knowledge and skills related to each
of these primary functions.
Therefore, the role of a nurse in the community is very vital,
without there’s no community health facilites would be built, no hospitals
can operate without their presence that’s why we should also thank them
too for being compassionate with dedication on their works because
nobody said it was easy. With relation to the topic again, the major role of
community health nursing is to preserve the health of the community and
surrounding populations by focusing on health promotion and health
maintenance of individuals, families, and groups within the community.
