When we use it?
This type of conditional is used in situations where if a condition is know, a
certain result is likely to occur.

For the future phrase we


mostly use the simple
future with will, but you
can also use the simple
future with going to a
modal verb: can, might,
should, or must.
How we use it?
The first condition is used to talk about future actions/events that are likely to
occur or have a real possibility.

● If it snows tomorrow, I'll stay home.

(I think there is a real possibility that it will snow tomorrow. In this


condition, I will stay home)

● If my parents don't buy me a piano for Christmas, I'll be very unhappy.

(I think there's a real possibility that they won't buy me a piano. In this
condition, I will be unhappy)
Differences with other conditionals
First vs second: The first conditional is to situations that situations that very
likely occur. In another hand, the second conditional is used to talk about
things that we really don't think will happen or that we consider very
improbable.

Zero vs first: zero is for general conditions that are always true, instead the
first conditional is for particular situations.

Third vs first: First conditional is for situation that probably happen in the
future and the third is talks about events that didn't happen in the past.
