1-5 practice Example:

Figure (1)

We will do this example by 2 methods (Geometry Method and STAAD

Editor Method )
1-5-1 Geometry Method:
First when we open (STAAD PRO) this window will appear

figure (2)

We click on (new project) then anew window will appear and from this
widow we choose (Plane) also we choose unit of length (Meter) and the
unit of the force (KN) and we choose (Add Beam) . see figure (3)

figure (3)
Now the home widow of the program will appear and we change the
view from isometric view to view from +Z.

figure (4)

Now we will draw the beam as it is shown in figure (1) on the grids which
we can reach to it from (Geometry) in (Modeling) window, so we need
(7) grids in (X) direction and (2) grids in (y)direction. (note:1grid=1m).

After the drawing we click on (Snap Node/Beam) in the right window to

stop drawing.

figure (5)
Now we need to define the material of the beam and enter the
dimensions of the section, so we will go to (General) and then (Property)
so this window will open. figure(6) so click on (Define) and this widow
will open. figure(7) and then we input the dimensions of the bean
(depth=460)and (width=400) and choose the shape which is rectangular.

figure(6) figure(7)

Now we need to add this material for the section so we will choose the
material and select all members and after that we click on (Assign) we
see the (R1) below all members as shown in this figure(8).

figure(8)
By double click on any member we can see the properties of this
member and the load on it , as shown if figure(9)

figure(9)

Now we will add the supports, so from(General) we go to (Support) and

a new window will open in the right side of the program. So we click on
(Create) and a new window will open, then we choose fixed and click on
(Add) figure(10),then we click on (Create) again and choose fixed but
which represent the roller support and we choose(Fx) and(Mz) figure(11)

figure(10) figure(11)
To add the supports for the members we choose the type of the added
supports and the we select the nods and click on (Assign). For example
to add fixed support for the beam we choose the fixed support
from(Supports –whole structure) window and then we select node(1)
and click on (Assign), and the same thing we will do for roller support.
Figure(12).

figure(12)

Finally we will add the load on the beam, so we go to (Load &Definition)

in (General) window and then we choose (Load Cases Details) from the
window which opened on the right side and click (Add) to add our new
case. figure(13). So a new widow will open and in this widow we can
choose the type of the load and naming the load. figure(14).

figure(14)

figure(13)
There is uniform load along the beam its value is (8KN) and concentrated
load at (4m) from the fixed support so to add the uniform load we
choose our load case which is (Load Case 1) and click on (Add), so a new
window will open and from this we choose (Member Load) and then
(uniform force) so we input the value of the load which is (8KN) and
(d2=0) to distribute the load along the whole of the beam, as shown in
figure(15).

figure(15)

now to add the concentrated load on the node we choose (Nodal load)
and then(Node) and input the value of the force (20KN)in the(y)direction
as shown in figure(16).

figure(16)
Now we will add the new loads for the beam. To add the uniform load
we choose (UNI.GY-8KN/m) and select all members of the beam and
then click on (Assign), for nodal load we choose (FY=-20KN.m) and then
we choose (Use Cursor To Assign) and then click on
(Assign) which will change to (Assigning) and after that we
select the node which located at (4m) from the fixed support and then
we click on (Assigning), and the load will appear like this.

figure(17)

Now to perform analysis we go to (Commands) and then we go to

(Perform Analysis)

figure(18)
Now a new window will open and we choose (All) and then click on (OK).

figure(19)

After that we can go to (Analyze) from the top bar and then (Run
Analysis) a new window will appear and the
analysis processing will run and if our working is right the program will
tell us that (Errors=0) as shown below.

figure(20)
Now we go to (Mode) and the post processing as shown in figure(21)

figure(21)

After that a new window will open and form this window we go
to(Result View Option) and then (Enable Automatic Scaling) and we
choose (Axial Force, Torsion, Bending, Shear, Stress). See figure (22)

figure (22)
 Reactions:
To show the reactions on the supports we go to (Reactions)from the left
vertical bar at (Post Processing) window and all reactions will appear as
shown in figure (23).

figure (23)

 Deflection:

To show the deflection we click on and the deflection will appear

From figure (24) the max.deflection is 0.034 mm at node (3).

figure (24)
To find the deflection for all members so just double click for the
member and then go to (Deflection) and the choose (Y Dir.) as shown in
the figures below.

o For Member (1)

figure (25)
o For Member (2)

figure (26)

The max. deflection for member (3) is the deflection for member
(2) which is (0.034) because these members has the same node.
o For Member (4)

figure (27)

 Bending Moment:
to show the bending moment we click on

figure (28)
 Shear Force:
to show the shear force we click on as shown below

figure (29)

1-5-2 STAAD Editor Method:

When we open the program this window will open

figure (30)

We click on (new project) then anew window will appear and from this
widow we choose (Plane) also we choose unit of length (Meter) and the
unit of the force (KN) . see figure (31). After that we click on (Next) and
then a new window will appear, figure(32) and we choose (Open STAAD
Editor) and click on (Finish)

figure (31) figure (32)

This window will open

Figure (33)
To add the beam as it is shown in figure (1) by (STAAD Editor) method
we must follow this producer

o Add joints coordinates

We have 5 joints so we will write it like this
JOINT COORDINATES
1000
2300
3400
4500
5700
o Add member incidences
Each member have 2 nodes so we have (4) members
MEMBER INCIDENCES
112
223
334
445
o Add member property
Now we will add the same section of the beam for all members
MEMBER PROERTY
1 TO 4 PRIS YD 0.46 ZD 0.4
o Add the constant
Now we will add the modules of elasticity and the material of the
beam for all members
CONSTANTS
E CONCRETE ALL
o Add supports
To add fixed support we write fixed but to add roller support we
write fixed but fx mz
SUPPORTS
2 4 5 FIXED BUT FX MZ
1 FIXED
o Add the loads
We have two types of loads one of them is nodal load at nod2 (3)
and the other is uniform load through all the beam.
LOAD 1
JOINT LOAD
3 FY -20
MEMDER LOAD
1 TO 4 UNI GY -8
o Perform analysis
To perform analysis for the beam in this method we don’t go to
(Commands) and then (Perform Analysis) no we just write in the
perform analysis and then we write print all
PERFORM ANALYSIS
PRINT ALL

Figure (34)

After all of that we save it and then form (File) we click on (Exit) then we
go to (Analyze) and the (Run Analysis) after that a window will appear
see figure (20) and then we go to (Mode) for doing (post Processing)
and we follow the same procedure in the previous method (Geometry
method) to find the reactions and the bending and shear forces.
